My leather jacket is good for now, but when it starts to warm up I'll be in the market for something a bit more heat-friendly (and highly reflective to aid in my quest of dying of natural causes). I'm interested in pants too - I don't think regular jeans would be too helpful if I were to go down. I see kevlar-lined jeans and cargo pants, and overpants as well. Any recommendations?

Shorts and and flipflops are out?

I've found that when it's 100 or over, a leather jacket is cooler than even a light shirt, as long as you're going over 45. God save your broiled ass if you have to stop.

Most textile/mesh jackets with shoulder, elbow and back armor will do the job just fine. From a brand standpoint, I've used Tourmaster in the past (and still do).

With regards to jeans, Draggin Jeans aren't bad. But you'll likely want something with knee protection. The Mesh Pants you've linked to should do the job just fine.

You might also consider just armor and no jacket. Like the Bionic series from Alpinestars?

I've been wearing Olympia gear this past year and am very happy with it. Had a buddy go down wearing both mesh pants, jacket, gloves and boots...At 65 MPH and he only ended up burning some holes through the gloves and had a severe ankle sprain.

I wear an HJC Modular helmet.

Mesh will be a lot cooler than denim. Just make sure you stay hydrated because all that air flowing over you will dehydrate you even faster.

Go with the lighter colors. I would stick with gauntlet gloves and race boots regardless though. I have the Sidi Air Vertigo and they flow enough air to keep your feet as cool as possible.

I hadn't seen those before- thanks!

I have leather gauntlet gloves already - I'll have to look into boots.

A little out of my price range.

I agree and went with this one in white and love it.... cars also tend to see me great with it and a white helmet:thumbsup:

Those "armor sets" are pretty cool, and a guy I used to ride with in Texas always wore one. For full-on riding in the twisties I bought a Cortech Latigo 1-piece suit. It's perforated but I felt safer having the full suit in case something bad happened. I also had a pair of racing boots (which I need to replace), A* gloves (not gauntlet), and a Scorpion EXO-1000 helmet.

When I ride to and from the DZ, work, etc. I wear my helmet, a mesh jacket, jeans, and my work boots (above ankle, leather, steel toe)

What kind of riding are you going to be doing and on what...?

Driving in 110F-120F is rough. I can't imagine you'd want to ride in it, especially when you have the CTS-V

Did you get a bike? I see only cars in your sig.

I like a mesh tank and some knee length cargo shorts. Topsiders or some nikes for kicks.

AC at 69 degrees. Cause 70 is too hot and 68 too cool.

I've had an '00 SV650 since '08.

Heh we'll see how long I last- I work nights, so I'm commuting at ~9:30pm and 6:00am, so I might be able to make it to the beginning of summer anyway.

Mostly commuting, but a couple of the guys I work with have bikes so I may start taking some trips up to the mountains/etc eventually.

Would you want mesh in Arizona or just textile?

I've had to do some field engineering out in Yuma when it was around 120F in the afternoon, and we all wore layers. Sweat soaking the inner layer kept us cool.

Wouldn't the mesh just let the hot air through and make you dehydrated?

For Florida, mesh is a no-brainer. On the east coast we rarely get above 90F but the humidity is nasty. I commute in a mesh jacket, vented boots, and kevlar-line jeans. The biggest comprimise I make is in non-gauntlet gloves - the shorter gloves let air flow up your sleeves.

I don't like the armor suits for the street because in my experience they don't hold up while sliding down the road. They initially came out for dirtbikes, where they work great since you don't have to worry about sliding from 60mph to 0 on asphalt.

The minimum I would wear even in the middle of a hot/humid atlanta summer was good quality mesh. I liked alpinestars, although dainese has great mesh as well.

Here's the thing.. mesh only works to help keep you cool if you're moving enough for air to push into the jacket. When you're stopped it's basically a thick, heavy winter coat. So if you're in traffic you will be hot no matter what.

Mesh definitely does not protect as well as textile or leather no matter the brand. I've seen it get hot from sliding and melt into wounds. I've seen 30mph crashes rip apart an icon mesh jacket like it was tissue paper. Be sure the armor is held in with textile panels/straps/etc and will hold up if you crash, and that it has a good back protector.
