$700 with a monitor included? Thats a very tough build to put together even if building it yourself. Might want to buy a prebuilt dell or something like that. I hope you dont plan to game with it?

I don't think that will happen. Cheapest I can think of (before shipping)

17" LCD $150
E4400 $140
motherboard $70 (though Mwave deal may be over)
2GB DDR2-667 RAM $50
Radeon 2600XT $100
optical drive $30
hard drive $70
case $50 (Rosewill or Cooler Master Centurion)
power supply $35 (for a 300W FSP)
Windows $90
shipping $30
$815

That doesn't even include mouse, keyboard, speakers/headphones. I suppose if you had your own copy of Windows (I get them for free/cheap through MSDN-AA because I'm a CS student) and maybe if you go cheaper on the CPU such as an E2xxx series, then you can hit your budget.

Get a dell from the dell outlet unless you're deadset on buying a system.

You can get a reasonably fast Core 2 Duo system for $400 leaving you plenty of room for a nice monitor.

You could live with onboard sound for a while but no video card? The OP didnt say what he planned to do with his PC but if gaming is involved he's gonna need a decent video card that'll bust his budget. This is a nice el cheapo build though for someone just wanting to surf the net and such.

22" LCD...$200 AR at Office Depot this week
E2160...$80 (overclock to +3.0GHz)
Abit IP35-E...$71 AR at MWAVE
1GB x 2 HP/Crucial DDR2 667 RAM...$30 AR at hot deals forum
DVD burner...$25 Pacific Digital at hot deals forum (suppose to be BenQ 1620)
Seagate/Maxtor 160GB HDD...$50 (often on sale at Office Depot, Staples, Frys.com)
Case...$50 or FREE AR (Frys.com Antec case special)
Antec Earthwatts...$30 to $50 AR (wait for sale at Frys.com)

Total is $556 plus tax and shipping. Use remaining $ for GPU. Again, need to wait for these items to go on sale.

Nice find, SR. The OP needs to be aware if he wants to OC he'll need a better hsf than the retail one. Not sure what will fit in the NSK2400 case.

Another vote for the Dell outlet. You can get the basics pretty cheap there, and upgrade video/RAM, etc as needed, and buy whatever the current deal is on a monitor.

Sample AMD system

Yes, Big Typhoon open box @ NewEgg for $18. Keep checking 3x per day in the next several weeks. The stock cooler should be able to handle a 3.0GHz overclock if the case has adequate air flow or a side duct.
