Well folks, its been a LONG time since I've been on anandtech, but i need a recommendation, and this is the place to go.
I need a firewire case for both my Mac and my PCs. I have a 400GB drive I need to install, and my current case doesn't support 48-bit LBA.
Here are my absolute requirements:
1. AC input. I despise power bricks; they break, get lost, and are a general nuisance. I know having a PSU in the case makes it bigger, heavier, etc etc. I don't care.
2. Firewire chipset capable of 48-bit LBA, and working on a Mac (OSX). I'd much prefer an Oxford 911+, 912, or 922 instead of the Proliant, but if I have to, I'll take a Proliant.
3. 5.25". I need to be able to put a dvd-r drive in it, or a HDD. This means that the case must support both 3.5" and 5.25" drives. No Vantec NexStarII, as it wont support the 3.5".
I'd also like it to:
4. USB 2.0 Support. I dont use it, but one of my PCs doesn't have firewire. If it doesn't have usb2, i'll be fine.
5. non-ugly. I dont much like flashing lights and weird graphics. I've got a plain jane dual drive firewire enclosure now, its worked just fine, and blends in.
Thanks.
Here are the places I've looked:
newegg
TigerDirect
fwdepot (they have a dual drive 3.5" Case that takes AC, but its 110$, and shipping is $17... and I couldn't use a 5.25" drive in it.
Enlighten me!
