I play it on my projector in sig on a htpc and even the wife who HATES games toys around with it...

I know you said you like shooters and not RPGs, but give Titan Quest / Immortal Throne a look. On sale, they can be found together for $5-10.

If you ignore the RPG elements (since the story is fairly weak, the map is very linear, and skill progression is really simple), you can look at it like a general hack-and-slash game where you just run around killing stuff. It's quite fun that way. You can just spell points in whatever skills / attributes sound good, and though your character will suck in the end game, you'll have a lot of fun in the mean time.

Torchlight is similar in this regard. Mindless hack and slash.

Serious Sam was awesome! I'm playing Counter-Strike: Source a lot lately (mostly gungame deathmatch), not sure if you'd be interested in that. It's just mindless shooting shit.

I've played a bit of serious sam HD first encounter and it's fun. I'm about 3-4 hours of gametime in and it's getting a bit repetitive for my tastes. Might jump to second encounter. L4D2 is fun if you have only played the first one. I think it's a big improvement. counter strike source is still great also

I think I'll give L4D2 a whirl since I enjoyed the first one.

they aren't shooters but I'll suggest VVVVVV and super meat boy. if they have demos you should try em out. screenshots/videos don't do them justice
