I discovered this 2 weeks ago in NOLA..... WOWZA. It is rabid good.
But not a sipping for me. I was actually surprised to see Buffalo Trace have so little love here. Its my go to RIGHT after Makers.
And up above, I read about JD and the charcoal filtering. Correct, filtering it moves it out of bourbon class. If you like the charcoal smoky, try Gentleman Jack. It gets run through twice. For mixing... Save your $$, go green label.
Damn, tonight will be a few drams now. :awe:

Looks like they are recalling Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey in Europe.

Care to share said bread pudding recipe? Thanks

I've made a few different versions. I checked the recipe section of the mm website: https://www.makersmark.com/sections/64-apple-bourbon-bread-pudding-with-maker-s-mark-caramel

You can pretty much follow any bread pudding recipe with a whiskey sauce and be in good shape. The caramel flavors of maker's is what makes it perfect. I like cooking raisins with sugar, butter, and maker's....it rehydrates the raisins and goes really good with the bread as it soaks up the liquid from the glaze/sauce. I may have to get some good bread and make some this weekend.

Pendelton Rye is my absolute favorite. It's got popular though so it's price has shot up a ton. It used to be $28 a bottle. Now it's hard to find for under $40. It's a smooooooooth sipper with a great butterscotch note to it.

Bookers is a totally different beast than most others. It's one of the few ultra high octane alcohols that still actually has interesting notes to it. It a crazy experience. It almost aerosolizes in you mouth and then evaporates into this explosive palate of flavors that you smell more than taste. It's more of a dessert sort of thing or a one shot and done for the night. Not something you'll go back and pour a couple cups/snifters of.

And like several others, Woodford Reserve is my favorite "every day" bourbon. It's just a great well balanced whiskey that's relatively affordable.

I might be confusing Blanton's with Baker's or Basil Hayden's; I had a flight of all three somewhere and one of them was distinctly underwhelming, but I don't remember which. There are far too many "B" bourbons, and that shit gets confusing when you're drinking.
I thought Basil Hayden was very, very smooth, but not terribly flavorful.
Just an FYI but Bulleit or Dickel (among others) rye is the same juice as Templeton, usually for $10 less. All are sourced from the MGPI (formerly Segrams) distillery's 95% rye stock.
Hm, I thought it seemed pretty similar in price to Bulleit when I was shopping, but I'll have to double-check when it's time to replenish. I went through a bottle of Dickel earlier this year.

If you like Pendelton try Lot 40. It's usually $15 to $20 more per bottle but trust me it's worth it.

Basil Hayden's is the weak sister of the Beam premium bottlings for me. Comes across as weak and one dimensional. Bookers is the star of that line IMO.

Templeton still running about $35 a bottle around here and I can find Bulleit in the low $20s usually.
