Try the Glendronach 12 its aged in sherry casks and really smooth to sip and a good starter if you're not mixing it with anything. If you are mixing, who cares what you get just find something cheap.

I put this in a glass with a few cubes of ice and sip it like a bad ass:

I discovered this 2 weeks ago in NOLA..... WOWZA. It is rabid good.
But not a sipping for me. I was actually surprised to see Buffalo Trace have so little love here. Its my go to RIGHT after Makers.
And up above, I read about JD and the charcoal filtering. Correct, filtering it moves it out of bourbon class. If you like the charcoal smoky, try Gentleman Jack. It gets run through twice. For mixing... Save your $$, go green label.
Damn, tonight will be a few drams now. :awe:

I'm on a Templeton rye kick right now. That or Elijah Craig if I just want to sit and sip something. Evan Williams if I'm out for a buzz.

We used to drink Prairie Fires back in the restaurant days. A shot of Fireball with a teaspoon of Tabasco on top. One or two was ok, but after three it was heartburn city.

By the way I bought a bottle of Blanton's the other day. Decent Bourbon, but it's no Bookers, or even Woodford really.

We always made Prairie Fires with tequila and Tabasco; vile drink. Fun trick to pull on a friend though.

And I'm surprised you prefer Woodford to Blanton's. I like the sharpness of Blanton's; Woodford seems too sweet and mellow for my palate. Booker's is a class apart until you get into the super high-end stuff though.

I always keep Bookers in my cabinet; it is by far my favourite. There is something about the Woodford I really enjoy, I'm not even exactly sure what it is; just the smoothness of it I guess. It is definitely a different experience but the Blanton's just tasted a little bland to me. I still have a most of a bottle, or orb or whatever you'd call it, so maybe it will grow on me, but it's not one I would be rushing to buy again at this point.

I might be confusing Blanton's with Baker's or Basil Hayden's; I had a flight of all three somewhere and one of them was distinctly underwhelming, but I don't remember which. There are far too many "B" bourbons, and that shit gets confusing when you're drinking.

I have a bottle of Bookers. I had it for ~8 years, and only recently drank my first glass from it; only one glass :^D I remember liking it, but no particulars. Bourbon isn't my goto spirit when I want something to drink, but I should probably start drinking it.

I'd like to get a bottle of Blantons. I picked up a miniature when I was first trying bourbon(didn't want to spend a lot of money), and really liked it. It has an interesting grassy taste. I've never had anything quite like it.

Chivas is good. It took me awhile to decide which blend I liked better, Johnnie Walker or Chivas, but Walker wins by a slight margin.

Bookers is the best thing on that list...by a very wide margin.

Other good value bourbon: Elijah Craig 12 year, Four Roses Small Batch, Henry McKenna 10 year, Evan Williams Single Barrel, and Weller 12 year.

Just an FYI but Bulleit or Dickel (among others) rye is the same juice as Templeton, usually for $10 less. All are sourced from the MGPI (formerly Segrams) distillery's 95% rye stock.

Haha, no doubt. I love Basil Hayden's, love it. Not sure about Baker's, can't confirm if I have ever tried it.

Knob Creek when I am feeling rich

Makers Mark when I just want something good

Glenlivet has crossed my lips on occasion

Evan Williams and Jim Beam have never impressed me

I don't have the same budget as some of these other guys.

There are others that are good, but this is what I drink. I buy about 3-4 liters a year...so I'm not a big drinker of the stuff. For the holidays, it's 100% by far the best whiskey to mix lightly with egg nog and makes the best bread pudding you've ever had.

I enjoy Makers Mark a lot. it's not to expensive yet pretty good.

If you want a surprisingly drinkable, very smooth, very inexpensive whisky: Windsor Canadian. Although I like it on ice.

A very nice blended Irish whisky is Tullamore Dew.

I can't really stand Fireball, but I've been drinking a little of Jim Beam's Red Stag Spiced, which has a much more subtle cinnamon flavor, and I really enjoy it.

For pricey bourbons, Blanton's Silver is the best that I've ever had. All kinds of wonderful little flavor notes.

Stranahan's is wonderful bourbon from a micro-distillery here in Colorado.

Maker's Mark is the only bourbon I've had in recent memory where I actually didn't like it....and I regularly buy handles of Evan Williams.

STAHP calling bourbon whiskey!

It is whiskey. I know what you're ranting about, and you're dog shit wrong. I also don't care where you live. I hear Americans proclaiming TheOneTrueWay® regarding American things, and they're dog shit wrong also.
