Recommend me an AMD motherboard

Been out of the hardware loop for a while, but I'm looking for a good motherboard to overclock a Phenom 9950. This computer will be for gaming and overclocking. Please no intel fanboys, I won the 9950 in a raffle, so that will not cost me anything.

If you are buying a new motherboard for a 9950.... you will want to wait a little bit. AMD is rereleasing their 790FX chipsets with a new southbridge. The new southbridge called SB750 in addition to having some faster USB and RAID-5 also has one VERY cool feature you will want. It allows the CPU to do advanced clock calibration. This gives allows good overclocks. Anand got 3.5Ghz on air with their 9950. They are conservative so you can expect people to post overclocks with higher speeds. The new AMD rerelease of the chipset is supposed to be this week. They have the 790FX with SB750 and they will have a 790GX/sb750 that has a integrated video card. A 4450??? Not great but better than any other integrated video card availlable.

If you do not want to wait or pay that much make sure you get a motherboard with a sb700 southbridge and NOT the sb600. Some People have stable problems with the sb600.

I am waiting for hte ASUS. I like them and they have the exressgate thing. And I got 2 ATI 4850 cards so I need crossfire.

Dude you should really go Intel. Even if your AMD CPU is free, Intel is a much better value, especially since you're overclocking.

Hmm, definitely get a board with the new SB750 if you can afford it. It should greatly help you overclock your 9950. Check out AnandTech's articles on the SB750 as well.

If you didn't open your Phenom, I suggest you return it and get yourself an Intel setup instead.

If you can get a sb750 and get 3.0ghz out of a Phenom then don't worry about Intel at all. Anyone running C2D's over 3.2 are either Supreme Commander players, media ripper/encoders or Folders. Clock for Clock the Phenom is as good.

I have the Gigabyte 780G mobo that has the SB700 and it is an excellent mobo especially when you look at all the connection options. For OCing and gaming though, the new chip with the SB750 appears to offer at least a 300mhz advantage so I would likely wait for that to come to market.

Anyone know the ETA on the SB750? The article doesn't mention anything about a release date.
