Recommend me an Android keyboard.

Here's the catch - the issue I have with the aftermarket keyboards I've tried is that they're too tall. I run into issues with fair regularity - such as with my bank app - where aftermarket keyboards obscure the password box because they take up more screen space than the stock keyboard. Many websites and apps seem built around the stock keyboard height.

I've tried both Swype and Smart Keyboard Pro and like them both better than stock except for this issue. I wish there was a way to make the Swype keyboard lower-profile.

And in cases where I can't scroll I'm SOL.

I'll see if I can find the Jellybean keyboard, what does it bring to the table?

Since you mentioned Smart Keyboard Pro, there is an option in either GEneral or Advanced (I forget) to mess with key height. I dropped it to the height of the regular ICS keyboard. Smart Keyboard Pro will by default take up half the screen or something with the prediction bar. You can definitely make it smaller.

I didn't see that option before, will play with it.

Do you know of any other keyboards that have height adjustment?

Thumb Keyboard -- you can adjust the keyboard dimension itself -- minimize/maximize via percentage.

SmartKeyboard Pro is probably the most powerful keyboard out there with the most tweaks. Better keyboard can do some tweaks too and THumb keyboard is decent.

I know people love to talk about Swype and Swiftkey, but I swear those two keyboards are void of any customizing. I'm not great fans of either and even if I were, I feel like those are keyboards designed to change the way you type. Even if I was a constant swyper, I'd like a good tapping keyboard too. Every other OS out there uses tapping, and while I can get used to swyping myself, what happens when I hand my phone to my mom? Or my gf? Or any other user?

Anyway, we can argue about Swype and Smart Keyboard all day, but anyway I find Smart Keyboard to be the most powerful tapping keyboard. It's also VERY good in tapping accuracy. While its prediction isn't 100% there, I think that's secondary. I however would like for the auto correct to improve. Maybe to Swiftkey levels? Swiftkey has an excellent algorithm in that sense, but fails to deliver a standard layout with options to customize the layout.

You can always press back to hide the keyboard to pick other fields. Guess I'm not understanding the issue.

I've been using SwiftKey since it was free on Amazon a while back. The first thing I do when I flash a new ROM on my phone is install Amazon Appstore and then Swiftkey.

Since I went to ICS and now JB, I've tried all the 3rd party keyboards, but I always come back to the stock keyboard. Just need the thing from AOKP that lets me move the cursor with the volume rocker and I'm good.

I bought Swiftkey3, and have used Swype for a long time.

I recommend FlexT9. Like Swiftkey you have to pay for it, but I very much prefer swiping over tap prediction. Swype is eternally in beta and I've ran into some issues/inconsistencies with it.

Try a demo of FlexT9 and/or Swiftkey. But I think the decision will come down to if you prefer predictive tapping or swiping to type. Also, check into the different modes that FlexT9 offers, swiping is just one method.

One more vote for swiftkey 3, if I remember correctly they have options for different keyboard sizes if vertical height is a concern

GKOS seems very interesting to me, just laggy. Someone else might have better luck.

I must be the weirdo here I actually prefer the ICS stock Android keyboard best! I can type so fast on it without making typos most of the time compared to the Samsung keyboard. The only annoying thing is autocorrect. It eventually learns as YOU correct IT but still, I'd rather just leave any typos I make ... It's a text or quick message, not a legal document.
