Recommend me some blues guitarists!

Hi Guys!

I'm a pretty decent guitarist and I've kind of fell in love with the blues lately.

I've been listening to everything from SRV, John Mayer, Philip Sayce, etc.

Anybody have any recommendations for blues guitarists? And/or specific songs?

I'm eventually going to start using some backing tracks and do a few songs for open mic nights. I have the chops, but am looking to expand my listening base so I can get ideas.

A decent portion of new blues is actually old blues. If there is a newer blues song you like, look into who actually wrote it and you might find more artists you like that way.

Buddy Guy definitely.

Jeff Beck isn't exactly a blues guitarist specifically, but he's done bluesy stuff and is an incredibly creative guy.

..and anything Duane Allman put his hands on for sure. Again, not a straight up blues traditionalist, but holy shit talented.

cowboy junkies aren't strictly blues but they play some sick covers!!!
Their album 'whites off the earth now' and 'trinity sessions' are one of my faves.
their newer stuff is crap tho.

I like Delta Blues so I'm recommending Son House and Robert Johnson as a start.

I strongly recommend Mississippi Fred McDowell. The man was born in 1904 and was poor most of his life, got recorded during a blues music resurgence when he was older, taught Bonnie Rait and a bunch of other musicians to play. When he died, Bonnie Rait paid for his funeral, iirc.

I'm more of a instrumental/progressive rock player, having played for over 25 years, and pretty much follow Steve Vai, Joe Satriani type instrumentalists, however, for Blues, my favorite lately is Ronnie Baker Brooks. Here's one of my favorites of his:
