Tinsley Ellis - I think I might have seen him in concert many years ago, good solid blues and a good time. NAme look and sound is really familiar

Dave Hole - Whoa, very nice! Not familiar with him glad you turned me on to him. THIS is the blues I was looking for tonight but didn't know it. Thanks.

Leslie West - Wow, is that guy still alive & performing Awesome. I sort of vaguely knew him a little bit back in the days when I was doing a lot of session work in NYC. He's still amazing - in top form. Wow. Sweet blues. Gotta find more of this stuff.

Monster Mike Welch - Um, when he was 14? Was he good then - because he has some very nice chops now. Once again, thanks. Enjoyed a lot.

John Lee Hooker/Bonnie Raitt - I'm in the Mood
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNepiRcyd7w&feature=fvst

Lucinda Williams - I Changed the Locks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clKQhawfADs

Peter Green & Fleetwood Mac - Black Magic Woman
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0uS0IhXYLA

Finally - three cuts I already know!! Good to hear some old friends again. I love I'm in the Mood. Not all that fond of Lucinda Williams' voice but there's something about her that grows on me.

Black Magic Woman is just magic. I used to sing that on stage with my band. I'll still sing it if I've had a few drinks and can force people to listen. Love that song. Love that version, the tone and riffs give me chills. That's what I like.

Thanks!

Thanks and I'm honored to be one of your 3 posts! Thank you!

Charlie Patton cover - Some O'these Days - who is the artist? It's a great version, thanks for finding it. Like it, want to hear more from the same guy.

Tom Waits - My Pony - Oh, yes, that voice. His voice is the blues. That's a fine song.

John Prine cover - Hello in There - at first I thought why bother with a John Prine cover when the real thing is easy to find. But you know, that felt mighty fine to listen to. The guitarwork pulled me in. It's not actually my favorite song in the world but it hits the spot tonight. Good find.

Kristen Hersh - Your Ghost - new to me, good song. Lovely voice, not your traditional blues, but I liked it. You know I'm going to say "haunting" - but I like the lyrics.

Hem - Half Acre - this one didn't do much for me - sounded like the soundtrack for something meaningful for school - but I didn't hate it

Emmylou Harris - Goodbye - Another of those great blues-rock voices. I don't care what she sings and I don't care if I understand the words, it just feels and sounds right.

Thank you, thank you. I'm having a great blues night tonight. If these suggestions keep on coming I may stay up forever.

I don't listen to blues, they only make it worst. Something upbeat and loud makes things better

You're not listening to the right blues. The whole point of the Blues is to listen to a feeling so much worse than yours that it makes you feel better in comparison.

Without it, it'd be like someone talking about any woman and no one saying pics or ban.

That would make a good blues song
/slow music
I been posting here off topic
Yeah been posting here off topic

Geeshie Wylie singing Last Kind Words recorded March 1930. What a great clip. New to me and interesting, loved her voice. Intriguing harmonic structure but definitely hardcore old style blues. Liked the guitar too.

The notes say it's in teh movie Crumb which I haven't seen so I went to my library's website and reserved it. Time to watch that thing.

Hey, I'm getting to all of this slowly but surely! Lots of GREAT music tonight.

I have to say, I'm absurdly surprised no one has mentioned Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughn, etc. Not to mention they are some of the best guitarists to have ever walked the Earth.

I would assume it's because I mentioned "something I haven't heard" somewhere back near my original post - but you are so right, if I want real deep blues you summed it up perfectly.

Who's your favorite few? Off the top of my head, mine are of course Hendrix, early John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Clapton, BB King. That's just a random selection and remember that I've had a few drinks during the course of this exploration -

Oh, yes, yes. Janis sings the blues like nobody else. I got my listening chops all warmed up listening for hours to all the songs in this thread (with a drop or two of Jack) and I'm ready for something that'll make me thankful to the good lord that I ain't in that much pain. Ball and Chain - Bless you Janis.

Here's one back at you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-B41dXQp6Bw&feature=related Turtle Blues - one of the songs she wrote herself - and this version is with piano which I happen to love oh yes.

I'm not listening to the blues to make things better. I'm listening to feel more of what I'm already feeling, to explore it, let the music take me wherever the music goes, to let go of my own thoughts and preconceptions and get outside of my own self for a while.

The few other tracks she recorded are in line with the blues of the times. The closest thing I've found harmonically to Last Kind Words are some of the songs of the Garifuna of Central America.

Hopefully you're feeling more perky today. But here are some more links for the next time you need them.

The Charlie Patton cover was something that I just stumbled upon. Here's the rest of his YouTube stuff.

Jackson Browne - I actually only knew Nico's cover of this song from the Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack. Hard to believe he wrote it at 16.

Yeah, the last half dozen Leslie West albums have been straight blues. He's great. You'll have a hard time picking his blues stuff out of youtube because most of the videos are either back from his younger days or this long interview he did recently. The interview is interesting though.

Monster Mike came out with 3 albums before he turned 16. He opened BB King's house of blues when he was 13. He was and is great. I went to this hole-in-the-wall club that he was playing at and the owner came over and said the band had no where to sit and eat and the meal was part of their pay and asked if they could join us (we had a big table). We said sure. So, here I'm sitting with the little Monster and gabbing with his mom all night long.

Hey thank you! I like these.

Greg Brown - Cept You & Me Babe - new to me. Sweet voice, sweet classic rhythm section. Sad, it made me cry
Nina Simone - I want a little Sugar in my Coffee - my dad (pro jazz/swing pianist) LOVED Nina Simone so I know her songs but didn't appreciate them - dad died when I was in my teens. Glad you posted that, maybe it's time to give her a serious listen.
Jim Croce - Operator - Love his voice, great song
Bob Dylan/Emmylou Harris - One More Cup of Coffee - actually the video you linked is Bob Dylan/Joan Baez same tune, which I like better. Yup, definitely the emotions I'm going for.
Jakob Dylan/ - Nothing But The Whole Wide World - new to me. I like his voice and that song is a good one. Thanks for turning me on to him.
Johnny Cash doing NIN - Hurt - oh god yes, hits the spot. What I wanted.

Tom Waits - Bottom of the World - I love that song, it's beautiful. I don't know what is in his voice that makes it so awesome but I love it.

Any more? Keep 'em coming. Deep gratitude.
