The car is a 2002 Chevy Impala. I have been reading online and the consensus is pretty much on silicon based wipers such as Rain-X and PIAA. Personal experiences on how long they last, effectiveness, etc. are welcome. Also, anybody know of a cheap place to buy them from?

I'm planning on putting Rain-X solution on the windshield, so if anyone has this combination already, how do you like it? Any squeaking, streaking, damage to wipers?

I have cheapo wiper blades on my corolla with Rain-X and it works fine for me. I just don't want to spend 30 bucks on wipers and then throw them away.

Thanks.

My Altima currently has Silblades installed. I'm pretty satisfied with them. I think I got them from Amazon.

Bosch Microedge Excel
I use them exclusively on all of my vehicles that get driven in the rain.

I think if you put Rain-X on your windscreen you wouldnt use wipers aswell? as the rain just runs off with the wind.

I'm just using Bosch wipers.. i'm impressed with them, no streaks or anything just leave the screen looking dry after each wipe..

Rain-X works somewhat at low speeds <40mph. It only works really well at hwy speeds, then the wipers are not needed.

Bosch are by far the best wipers ive ever used. I find that, coupled with the Rain-X windshield washer fluid (orange stuff) is AWESOME!

I upgraded my stock wipers (which were terrible) to PIAA Super Sporza? wiper blades. These things are great, best wipers I've ever had.

Wipers have a finite life -- get the Bosch ones because they are pretty cheap. You will have to buy more later anyway.

Valeo flat aero blades... they come with retro-fit fittings and are simply superb. also Bosch make similar good quality Aero blades. Valeo make the OEM wiper blades for many of europes car makers... ford, citroen, renault, etc

http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/valeo/ultimate.jsp

i got mine for my focus for £25

they rock, perfect contact across the entire blade, they clear water away perfectly and reduce wind noise on the motorway

PIAA Super Silicons are the best wipers ever made. No rain-x required.

are the rain-x ones you are talking about the same ones they are advertising on tv now?

i was wondering how well they actually work, but at about $17-18 each, i'm hesitant to try.

I think so. I see them at walmart, autozone, etc.

Anco brand (around $5-6 at Wally World) is what I've always used. They usually last a few years before I have to change them. I actually just purchased some new ones last Saturday and picked up some Michelin brand since they were out of Anco. I wouldn't invest a small fortune in wiper blades, just follow the K.I.S. rule.

Anco is crap.
I like my Bosch.
Heard good stuff about PIAA as well.

I bought the cheap ones (>$3). They survived the winter and are working fine for the rain. I also use the orange Rain-X stuff, and probably 65-85% of my driving is highway.

You may be obligating yourself for replacing the wiper motors prematurely. Winter blades are quite a bit heavier, and the motors really aren't meant to push them year-round.

They all wear out in 4-6 months anyway, and I've used many different types. I don't see any reason to spend extra money on them if they're going to wear out like that.

replace every year/rainy season. 3 dollar blades work fine, the rubber is going to take a beating frmo weather and the sun anyways. refills without blade frame even cheaper. not worth bothering with expensive blades.
