I am getting ready to build 5-8 new computers for work; database, word, email, excel use mostly, so nothing too fancy.

I want an all purpose mobo including ethernet, video, sound. Probably AMD chip.
Need: extremely reliable / cost / with good performance, but not cutting edge.

I was thinking about this board: ASUS A7N8X-VM/400 NVIDIA nFORCE2 400 CHIPSET ULTRA ATA133 MICRO ATX FORM FACTOR 1xAGP(8X)/3xPCI/2xDDR W/INTEGRATED VGA,LAN,USB 2.0 & AUDIO

but am open to suggestions.

thx

Here what I'd build. Cheap, very fast and rock solid Nforce chipset.

Cases Linkworld ATX Mini-Tower Case with 300W power supply, Model "617-C8828-P4" black or silver -RETAIL $24.00
Sony Black 52x32x52x16 DVD/CDRW Combo Drive, Model CRX320E Black, OEM $40.00
AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 266 FSB, 256K Cache Processor - Retail with HSF $57
NEC 1.44MB Black Internal Floppy Drive, OEM $10.99
Seagate or Samsung 40GB 7200RPM $58.00
2 x A-DATA 184 Pin 256M DDR PC-3200 - OEM $78.00
Motherboard BIOSTAR "M7NCG 400" nForce2 IGP has video/network/sound $61.00 Better than the ASUS cheaper and three phase power instead of two.

= $328 per machine

Then get a nice 17" LCD for each person so they have room to work and less eye strian. The Rosewill R700N is nice because it has integrated speakers for office minimal sound. Again less clutter. Costs $339 but well worth it.

i agree on the M7NCG-400.. i'm getting that myself.. excellent mATX board..
'and three phase power instead of two.'
excuse my ignoarnce but, what does that mean?

the asus is a fairly good board aswell though, but i wouldn't pick it.

i'd personally go for 2500+'s.. just so they last a little longer.. but i'm sure the 2000+ would be plenty fast enough. if you want to go more budget i'm sure a 1600 duron would be capable too.

and i'd get 1x512mb providing its cheaper for a little more upgradability.

If you could still find them, I'd nominate the Asus A7N266/VM-AA (AA for "AMD Assured") too. They're bombproof, judging by the 36 down at the office and the two that I've owned myself. Older technology, though... no USB 2.0, for starters. They top out with a 2400+ (ok, the rare 266MHz-based 2600+ would work too).
