Recommend rear speakers

I have this deck

and these in the front

What would you recommend for rear speakers that are reasonably balanced.

I know it's not a super nice setup but I'm no audiophile and it serves my needs just fine but I would like a little better quality from the rear speakers.

well, first off I would need to know what size your rear speakers are or at least what kind of car so I can look it up. But generally speaking if your happy with your front speakers just get that same series as those that fits your rear speaker mounting options. They are probably 6x9's but you need to look that up on crutchfield. On a side note in a deck and four system like yours I generally set my fader to +3 front , you want the field of sound more towards the front, then the rear, they are called "rear fill" speakers for a reason by the pro's.

Like LittleTinGod mentioned, rear speakers don't do much for your overall sound quality, some people don't even run rear speakers.

rear speakers will give you a good amount of fill sound. you can also use the rears to add a bit of mid-low sound, which makes a huge difference to the sound quality of your vehicle. tuning your system to a +3 front is weird to me, id like to hear all of them, so i balance it to where i can hear both front and rears equally. its been different in every one of my vehicles, based on the size and space of the rear of the vehicle, as well as the size and quality of the speakers i put back there. currently my truck has a 0 fade, the rears put out about the same as the fronts, and they sound great together. my wagon actually is -1 due to the fronts being component and a little treble-happy. my sedan is the weirdest one, but the deck has some messed up settings. it is more front than rear, depending on what level i have the rears filtered at.

in deck and 4 systems without a sub I think they are important though, a 6x9 will have a significantly lower frequency response than a 6 1/2 (6x6=36,6x9=54) so they will defintely add to your sound, but if you have it equally balanced the rear speakers will definitely be overpowering, you have to fade to the front to get a more optimum sound field.

In the article below Crutchfield put it like this:

"Adjust your receiver's fade control all the way to the front again. Slowly bring up the rear volume with the fade control until your music has a pleasing depth, but still sounds like it's generally coming from in front of you. Some receivers let you control the tone differences between the front and rear speakers. Tune your rear speakers to have a little less treble than your front speakers. This ensures that the music sounds like it's coming from the front, even when the volume is high. (Human hearing locates high notes better than low notes.)"

Now i doubt you can turn down the treble on your rear speakers on your deck but you can definetely fade them forward to get them tuned better.

You're looking at dumping good money into a bad location. Crutchfield seems to be saying 6.5's won't fit, so you're at 5.25's, and while the aftermarket deck helps you're looking at trying to overcome a lot. (small free-air speakers reflecting off the back glass)

I'd ghetto it up and get a pair of 6x9's in boxes.

Looking around, saw these:
http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Kappa...nity+kappa+6x9

96dB sensitivity, crossover, for $100.

(e: The "ghetto it up" was a reference to the install, not the quality of those speakers. A pair of $20 wedge 6x9 boxes perched up on the rear shelf isn't exactly the most elegant of installs. It's just it gets the job done VERY well because it cleans up so many problems with the factory shelf location.)

Looking around on the 'net, I'm seeing that the coupe has 6x9's rear and the sedan 6.5's, so make sure you've got that right. And people do seem to get 6.5's to fit with workarounds for the stock mounting hole locations.
As there seems to be a mounting depth limitation, I'm going to stick with saying, "6x9's in boxes."

If you're going to suggest this, make sure you remind them to strap them down securely. You definitely don't want them flying around in the event of a collision.

I think circular speakers sound better than 6x9s. I would use 6.5" speakers or 5-1/4"for fill. Better yet, skip the rear speakers and get better front speakers and/or more power.

Oops, I have a 2001 Civic. According to the Crutchfield article, I could go for either 6 3/4 or 5 1/4. Will I get a much different sound with 6 3/4 or not?

Go with Kenwoods for the back. Good speaker, low cost and will do the job just fine.

JVC is another good choice.......

Any decent brand in the 30-50 range....

None.

I'd say skip the rears and get a good 50-75x4 channel bridgeable amp. Bridge the rear channels to an 8 or 10.
