Recommend some iPhone compatible earbuds

Something came over me and I bought an iPhone. All well and good, except the supplied ear phones won't go in my ears and if I force them, they sound like bull, even if I try to ignore the pain.

I normally use earbuds, and have some cheap Sony fontopia ones - which sound acceptable, are comfortable for long periods and offer some sound isolation. The only catch is that they don't have the microphone or remote.

So, I'm looking for some sensibly priced in-ear buds which sound decent and have an appropriate microphone + answer button (the apple volume control would be nice too, but I would be happy to sacrifice the volume control that came on the bundled phones).

Any ideas? Looking for <$80 or so.

What about the apple in-ear buds? I've seen mixed reviews - some people say they're OK, some people say they're ass.

Oh, and don't point me to ebay. Just for a laugh I bought some $3.99 in-ear phones (basically clones of the apple ones) - they sound like ass (although better than the genuine apple ones) and the microphone doesn't work (well it does work, but it has so much static that speech is unintelligible).

Ebay's a fine place to get headphones... you just can't pay $3.99 and expect to get any quality. That'll happen ANYWHERE, not just at ebay. I had some suggestions but your stupidity has distracted me so much I've pretty much forgotten them all. Thanks a lot.

the apple dual driver inears(iems) are actually good for the ebay ~$30-40 going price. they won't have enough bass to satisfy bassheads though, but they are relatively balanced with good clarity. i think i'll be relegating them to everyday mid-fi duty when i don't want to pull anything nicer or more expensive out.

here's a head-fi thread covering them.

You can get adapters that are basically like an extension cable but with a built-in microphone and answer/end button for existing earphones. I know shure makes one, but no doubt you can find a cheaper alternative.
