Recommend some LINUX Books.

Hello,

I want/need to get a book on Linux.
One that can teach me heaps of stuff, but at an entry level and in not-so-technical terms.

Ive been using Mandrake Linux 8.1 for about 4-5 Months. So I am still a major newbie.
I've read heaps at linuxdoc.org and sites like that.
Have bought some mags and other reading materials, but think that an in-depth book is what i need.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.
Providing a link would also be great.

One of them has to be Running Linux. It's an O'Reilly one.

Just thought I'd get that one in before everyone else does

Have a look at O'Reilly's site.
To the best of my knowledge, they have yet to write a bad book, I've been very satisfied with every book I've ever bought from them, and they cover just about every *NIX related topic I can think about.

Running Linux is hands-down the best Linux book I've ever seen. Be warned that it's a bit outdated in some areas now - particularly X and X apps. But it's the only one I've seen that attempts to teach why things work the way they do, and not just give the superficial solution. It's also vendor-neutral - in your case, this will probably mean that there are faster ways to solve some of your problems using Mandrake's tools. But that extra time spent working with text files and command line tools pays off.

So I'm gonna give 'em a go.

If you want truely understand Linux and *NIX in general then get Your UNIX: The Ultimate Guide by Sumitabha Das ( ISBN: 0072405007 ). This
book will give you the basic understanding of Unix/Linux and the concepts and reasoning behind *NIX and why it works the way it does.
This book is not designed to be technical book/How-To-Set-Up interms of allowing you to config and setup a Linux box but what it does is it introduces you

can afford it or if you can find a cheaper used copy by ALL MEANS GET A HOLD OF IT!!!! This book will allow you to understand key concepts *NIX and will ease the
culture shock while providing you something to do once you set up that Linux box with all the excercises and examples it gives of commands like grep, cat, ls, find,
awk, and it even teaches you how to use EMACS and Vi text editors along with ftp, telneting and a few other programs under a *NIX command line interface.
This book is well worth having in your collection if you truely wish to learn *NIX in general.
