I just recently connected my Xbox after it's been in the closet for about 3-4 years, I really have'nt had much time to play it til now. So I'm looking to catch up on some good games from the past for cheap if possible. Any suggestions?

A few games I've really like playing

Katamari (loved, loved this game)
Burnout (I'm not much of a racing fan, but demolition style games are fun)
Ico (loved all the games in this series, anything similar to it I'd love to play)
Crackdown

Halo and Gears are the obvious ones. Oblivion and Fallout 3 if you like RPGs. They'll keep you occupied for awhile.

Fable 2. Loved the hell out of that game. Splinter Cell Conviction too!

Lost Odyssey.

Better "Final Fantasy" game than any real final fantasy of the last decade or so.

I strongly agree. Lost Odyssey is the best "Final Fantasy" released in years. It may not carry the name, but it was developed by people who worked on the earlier Final Fantasy games and it shows.

i was going to say burnout but it looks like you already have that in your list. burnout paradise may not be as fun since not many people will be playing it online anymore though.

super street fighter iv should be pretty cheap by now too.

If you have a halfway decent PC to game on, DO NOT even bother with Fallout or Oblivion or any Bethesda RPG.

Those games are orders of magnitude better on PC.

Absolutely. Bethesda games offer tremendous value because they're so freaking huge.

Oblivion and Skyrim are huge and boring. Fallout 3 is their only good game this gen.

Fable games went from good to ok to bad. Don't bother down that road.

Crackdown you already have, great game. If you want more try DC Universe Online, free to play (PC/PS3 though) and like Crackdown x10.

Gears is a good series. Mass Effect 1 & 3 are good, 2 is just boring filler.

Halo is a cliche space FPS, they just keep making the same game over and over (four this gen!).

I heard Witcher 2 is good, but hard. I loved Dragon's Dogma, great game.

I've been playing catch up. Here are some suggestions (not necessarily 360 restricted):

Red Dead Redemption
LA Noire
GTA 4 (Currently playing)
Fallout 3 (I assume New Vegas is fun as well, it's on the catch up list)
Batman Arkham Asylum
Batman Arkham City
Mass Effect series (to be honest, 3 is still on my to play list. At this point I may just wait for a game of the year edition or something along those lines)

Some of those are obviously older than others so I'd just get to them in order of aged to new. That way the newer ones may be cheaper by the time you get to them.

Semi-hijack but since Oblivion was mentioned...

Does anyone think a person who played Skyrim and Fallout 3 but skipped Oblivion would still enjoy Oblivion? Sometimes a step back in mechanics can lead to a less enjoyable experience overall which is why I'm asking.

Dark Sector was a lot of fun, kinda like Gears. Looks to be damn near free on Amazon now. I paid $10 for it several years back and definitely felt I got my money's worth.

Another vote for Crackdown too.

Another vote for both of these. Crackdown 1 is a very fun combo of Robocop and Spider-man, and Dark Sector has an interesting atmosphere and the Glaive spinny throwy weapon from Krull.

Also, Oblivion should still be fun after playing Skyrim. Combat is equally clunky in both and the Oblivion gate battles shouldl be different enough from the dragon fights to be interesting. Graphics quality shouldn't be that different since you're running both on hardware from 2005. It's on a high-end 2012 PC where Skyrim is far ahead.

Tales of Vesperia was under $20 on NewEgg recently. Kind of feels like the developers got 80-85% done with the game, then for some reason had to kind of stitch it together as best they could. There are some plot elements which they never really explain, but it's still a pretty good game on the whole, and the mechanics are solid, it was just the story that was kind of left with a few, "Wait a minute!" moments.

Tales of Graces f is probably getting to be pretty cheap by now, and Eternal Sonata wasn't a bad game, also having a few interesting combat mechanics. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is also pretty cheap by now I'm sure.

Deus Ex Human Revolution will probably be coming down in price by now, and if you ever played the original Deus Ex, Human Revolution does a great job of staying true to the spirit of the original. Now that Borderlands 2 is out, I would expect Borderlands will be coming down in price.

Also, at the risk of sounding like I'm spamming (I have no association with this company aside from being a customer), you might consider a mail order rental service like GameFly. If you like a game, you can buy it, and basically you keep the copy you have then they send you the box and manual in the mail. If the game is a steaming pile of excrement, you just send it back.

If you loved Ico, look for Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom. It's not a 360 exclusive, but it's a great 2-character combat/puzzler. Enslaved (also not a 360 exclusive) would also fit the bill.

Fallout 3 goty is only $12 on amazon, I played the regular no DLC edition and beat it with almost 50 hours into it. I imagine with DLC I will probably get around 75 hours of game time in.

I would beat FO3 GOTY and once your done with that then buy the new vegas ultimate edition. By the time you beat FO3 the new vegas ultimate should be a little cheaper I think now it is around $30 on amazon

There is also a xbox live arcade combo game that has trials HD, Limbo, and splosion man for pretty cheap on amazon, I think $10 or so, I have trials HD and sunk alot of hours into that also.

Red dead redemption is cheap like $10 and is really good
La Noire is $10 or so and is very good

Wow this thread is gonna make me go order some stuff from amazon right now

Since "cheap" is in the title I'll stick with just that.

  • The Orange Box if you've not played it on PC (includes HL2 along w/episodes 1 and 2, Portal, and TF2)
  • Oblivion
  • Halo 3 and Reach (I thought ODST was a waste)
  • Gears of War 1/2/3
  • Forza Motorsport 4
  • Red Dead Redemption
  • Fallout 3/New Vegas
  • Assassin's Creed 1/2/Brotherhood
  • Batman Arkham Asylum
  • Geometry Wars (XBLA)
  • Shadow Complex (XBLA)
  • Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (XBLA)

Batman Arkham City was my game of the year for 2011. I'm easily bored by games and will ignore them after 20 minutes if they don't start off banging. And that held my interest.

I also liked Dark Sector, it is fun to chop peoples heads off with the Glaive. The story is terrible, one of the worst storylines ever in a video game. I paid like 5 bucks a couple years ago, you can probably get it for like 50 cents now.

The Darkness 1 and 2 - I liked the story, the first one was amazing. 2 was good too, moreso for the art style.
Enslaved - I enjoyed this game a lot, was quite long and the story and ending were fantastic.
Singularity - Sort of an off the map shooter, I liked the time control in it.
Portal 1 and 2 - One of the more original and best series I've ever seen.
Rage - Another ugly duckling shooter, but I had a good time with it. Really nice graphics.

Agreed, Dark Sector and also Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway are two 50 cent games that are quite fun!
