Recommendation for recording software for IP Camera

Title pretty much states it but for more info.

I have two Hikvision DS-2CD2032-I IP cameras. From my limited live watching, they provide me with a good enough resolution.

Now I would like to be able to record the content to my hard drive during a specified time range.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good piece of software for doing this?

Like most, cheaper is better but I am more than willing to pay for a good piece of software.

I'll apologize in advance if this is the wrong sub-forum on Anandtech for this question.

For what, windows, android or don't it matter?
You can use something like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivuu if you got a android device.
Heard good things about BlueIrisSoftware.com for windows.
There are also some stuff like http://webcam-capture.sarxos.pl/

It really depends on what you will be running on.

Oh, and I don't think this post belongs in "Security", more like Software for windows if this is for windows.

Elixer,
Thank you for the reply.

I wasn't sure where the mos appropriate sub-forum to place this under. My initial best guess was security based upon the fact that it is a security camera/software issue. Wasn't sure if posting to OS specific was the best place.

For OS, I will be running Windows of some sort... which version depends upon how much "horse power" I need to devote to the camera

I've got a light system file system using an i5-4570S with Windows 7.

I've got NUCs all over the house that are on Windows 8.

I've got a dual Xeon E5-2695v3s server getting stood up currently. It will run Windows server 2012 and could VM(Hyper-V) whatever OS it needs to.

So hardware shouldn't be a problem()

Like you, my initial search did turn up Blue Iris as a good choice.

I have been using Blue Iris for years, been waiting for alternatives, there are none that come even close. You can add up to 128 cameras, record constantly or motion detect (set the sensitivity, schedule times, even draw areas to ignore or focus on), control pan and tilt, has a phone app as well as remote browser logins, send alerts a thousand different ways. Very configurable, tons of features, and easy to use.

Not free but the developer openly states on their forum to delete the registry key every 15 days to continue using it in trial mode. I think it's well worth the money though.

1sikbITCH, thank you for the feedback.

If you don't mind expanding, what would make you consider alternatives?

You should seriously consider a hardware device made for IP cameras. They run as low as $100 and they are more efficient than a PC. Check the ipcamtalk forums.

And what would this key be?

Sorry I missed this. I have been using it for so long I just expect competition to push things at some point. Never happens. Even the best Linux solution, Zoneminder can't touch BI factoring in ease of use imo, and I also keep an eye on that too. If they made BI for Linux I would be running it.

Ok I searched very well before posting this. I could not find the post from the developer on the Blue Iris forum. It was back in 2008 or whatever. I did find the information on an authorized reseller's website dated 2010.

I gladly paid the then $50. It's worth the $60 they want now. There is also a mobile app to stream to your phone for 10 bucks.

Edit - I felt a little funny about posting the key itself. The Blue Iris people might not appreciate Anandtech if this post starts popping up on search results on how to reset the trial. They aren't talking about it themselves now and that website is not current. They just never took it down.

Another vote for Blue Iris, I had an outdoor wifi bullet cam at my old house and it worked great. I used iSpy since it was free but it wasn't nearly as good IMO.
