Recommendation?

A simple system:

Core 2 Duo E8400 or Core i3-530 (no overclocking)
Video - just enough to run Windows 7 and watch movies (no games)
Storage - WD Velociraptor + WD 1.5TB 5400rpm
Media - 2xDVD-RW

I'm looking for a PSU to run silent. Thanks!

You forgot to include your budget. But based on your modest requirements there are plenty of PSU's that should fit the bill.

If you can't hear it, then I'll pay for it... but I want the cheapest one that will fit this description.

Can you list the ones that are known to run silent? I used a SeaSonic last time and it was practically inaudible.

Just about anything, really. Corsair's 400W is the best in it's class, and it's $40 AR.

I think that is one of the models that is fanless or fan goes to 0RPM at low loads like seasonic X-650. But I'd go with a corsair 400CX. Technically not silent but practically so.

I had a silverstone ST500F that was practically silent as well, but it's overpriced

No, the Nightjar PSUs have no fan, they're passively cooled. I'd just get the 400W Corsair, it's very quiet and well made.

Also, thanks for the recommendation on the Corsair. I think the price tag is attractive enough to just buy it. Granted, the noise level is definitely minimal to something else in the room.

You may find cheaper, but that's exactly what you'd get....a cheap piece of crap.

The Corsair, for the price, is about the only choice for your situation that makes sense, as long as you want a quality power supply.

If you don't care about the quality of the power being fed your computer, sure, go ahead and try to save a few pennies up front, but don't back come crying later when it dies/explodes/damages your motherboard/memory/cpu/video card.
