Recommendations for a gaming mouse in the $50-$75 range?

I have a gift certificate to amazon, and am in need of a good mouse as I get back into PC gaming. I prefer a larger and heavier mouse. I play mostly FPS type games, currently Borderlands 2 and Dishonored.

But since I have been out of the PC loop for the past several years, I am not sure where to start. Simply looking for suggestions for 3 to 5 gaming mice in that price range so I can readup on them and go from there.

Thank you in advance for any input!

I second the G9X recommendation.

I love wireless, but before I started buying them, I had two G9X mice, and they are fantastic.

Even though the G9x is the mouse I am currently using, I do wish the sensor tracked just ever so slightly faster. If you are an extremely low sensitivity gamer there are definitely better options.

Does anybody know how the current sensors from Razer do in comparison to the old 1800DPI Deathadder? The Orobrororororo or whatever new gimmicky high margin mouse Razer is selling actually looks like the sensor(s) could be the first improvement to tracking speed in years. Probably not, but could be.

Honestly, I hate mice that are too sensitive. Hard to control. I do not see the point.

I don't think there are any mice out there that are too sensitive.. If you need to lower a games sensitivity to slow it down enough for you at it's highest DPI setting then that is actually the best thing for you anyways.

Low sensitivity + High DPI = Best accuracy.
High sensitivity + Low DPI = Poop.

How high a DPI do you prefer?

G9x has 5700 max dpi right?

Yes, I have the G9x. And for example in BF3 at default sensitivity settings with 5700DPI it is out of control. I drop the slider in-game all the way down and move it up a few ticks with the keyboard. Makes it fast while staying precise, no jumping around at all no matter how small of an adjustment I need to make.

G400 or bust. I've owned the G500. The scroll wheel is way to sensitive for gaming and there is capacitor whine.

G400=God Tier

Most mice use a flawed sensor in one form or another. That is the pointer will accelerate, or jitter or angle snap, and not reproduce your input reliably. Most mouse reviews don't take account of these details because they don't know how to test for the problems (even though all you really need is Paint). Its not a driver problem, its a firmware issue driving the sensor and it can't normally be fixed.

The second thing most reviews don't take into account is how you hold the mouse, as in do you claw, do you fingertip or palm the mouse. See http://www.razerzone.com/mouseguide/ergonomic/clawgrip to see which you are if you don't know.

So given these two conditions my recommendations are:
Finger tip - Zowie AM
Palm - G500 if you like the higher back, or a Zowie AM
Claw grip - Kana

These aren't the usual list you see above, because I am talking about competitive pro gamer mice that are tested and confirm to not have flawed sensors, they don't accelerate and will produce near perfect operation with low sensitivity. You didn't mention if its RTS or FPS you are considering so I have recommended based on low sensitivity since its superior.

You will also want to combine it with a decent mouse pad, a puretrak talent is excellent and highly recommended.

You are all mouse nOObs jk jk. I had the first Razer mouse Razer Boomslang 20 00DPI ball mouse. since then I fell in love with their feel not cheap buttons like logitech, I used them all.. I forgot their names,, Copperhead wired I think it was 4000dpi Also Lachesis is sick wired mouse. But the daddy mouse is the Razer Mamba 2012. It doesnt have a button its all one slick design and special design on plastic,, amazing accuracy,, 16 million colors you can have spectrum on the charging dock and on the mouse wheel. I got my tarantula and the razer logo lights up and dims , my Lachesis did that, I miss that,, but the mamba is truley sick with these colors

ALSO very important,, I need buttons,, and Copperhead and Diamondback which I owned have pinkie buttons 2 of them, then 2 thumb ,, the mouses are delicate and sensitive,, but once you get used to it,,, you will FRAG like a God and enjoy the desktop as well,, without clunky cheap logitech software and cheap plastic mouse.
Also the mamba is 4G sensor dual sensor it has optical hole and laser,,, you can even calibrate the mouseu to the mouse surface your using, I suggest Goliathus because the mouse is very sensitive. Its not for all my dad didnt like it but once you get used to it you will be Razer for life,,,,,,, logitech is noobs,, I got Razer in 2000 ,,,,,, and am on my 6th razer mouse. Thank you... also mamba doesnt have pinkie buttons,, but has a sick grip... all is one surface not plastic ,,,,, guys go to www.razerzone.com , thank you

Holding the razer mouse is like a ferrari its quality it feels good...... dump logi, Grab a Lachesis for 50 bucks or 60 to the door. youll never go back, its wired tho....

I have to agree with tweakboy on the original boomslang I got one in the tin can when they first came out. Friends said HOW MUCH? you are an idiot
but it was the best feel and buttons of any mouse.
Then it finally died and I went to intellimouse explorer, it was just BIG and I need a big mouse.
Then a logitec 700 wireless then back to the explorer and I have tried a lot.
My problem is (and its just my opinion) I watched razor start to make mice for girls, little hands and big price. NO I have not looked at all of them I just said forget it and never looked again, maybe they do make bigger ones but my friends "HAD" copperheads and others build a few years ago and that is where I got my opinions from.

So I would buy something tomorrow with better side buttons and a big mouse that works but I have not found it.
and side buttons that are little top mount that barely are useable are just a waste of space so most are not for gaming.

The Rat7 is on sale for $65 but I have never seen one in person so can't say.
But people say its big. Never did hear how good it was just big and expensive.
Zowie AM Never seen one in real life.
Wish I had got a 518 on closeout to try. they say the 400 is the same mouse.

The G400 is the mx518 without prediction so its a great mouse for gaming.

The RAT 7 has that heavy feel even without the add-on weights. Sometimes the "eye" will pickup a hitchhiker and cause the sensor to freak out, don't be alarmed just clean it with some rubbing alcohol on the end of a q-tip.

I've had nothing but issues with Razer products; got a Mamba 2012 currently, and can't wait to replace it.

Phantom clicks, DPI changes by itself sometimes and is unable to be set at other times (profile switching stops working), horribly slow software (30-45 seconds to load profiles, 20 seconds to load icon menu, 5 seconds to 5 minutes for a profile selection to 'work', and if my PC goes to sleep, I have to unplug the base and replug it in to get the mouse up.

Wish I never sold my G700.

You play FPS games? You can ignore almost every recommendation in this thread then since almost everyone ponied up laser-mice with hardware level acceleration that you can't breed out with drivers.

I would say find a solid optical mouse with no acceleration and no prediction, but there are so damned few. Logitech G400, Zowie AM, Roccat Savu (build issues potentially) really the only ones that are fitting the bill at the moment, and of them only the G400 has any weightiness.

Yep, same issues here. Will never buy anything Razer ever again.
