Recommendations for co-op games with girlfriend?

Howdy!

I've been dating a nice gal for awhile who's enjoyed having a chance to play more computer games (since I have a spare computer that can run relatively modern stuff).

However, we don't have many good games we can play together. We both love Elder Scrolls games, but they lack a multiplayer component. We think it'd be awesome to have an exploring / adventure style game that would go play through together.

We've enjoyed doing some Portal 2 together, she didn't seem particularly into Dungeon Defender, and she's played the heck out of Oblivion (while I've delved into Skyrim a bit).

She's not GOOD at games, but she likes them... hence some of her reluctance when it comes to fun co-op games like Team Fortress 2. (I hooked her up with Vilja in Oblivion to help her get through the world )

Money is kinda tight and it doesn't have to be a brand new title.

That being said, anyone have some suggestions? (If only Skyrim had co-op! Bleargh!)

Not sure she can handle FPS games like TF2 and L4D (due to skill level / having not had much practice in those sort of games). That's one reason a more adventure sorta game comes to mind. I used to do WOW long ago, but it's so dull and formulaic when compared to Elder Scrolls games. I've heard lots of good stuff about Minecraft... that may merit further exploration. As for Mario... I'm limited to PC games right now. We've done some Lego games on PS2, and they are cute / fun... but I think both her and I like the depth offered by more RPG games (once again... Elder Scrolls).
Thanks for the suggestions thus far. I'm secretly hoping there's some awesome co-op adventure game out there that we can play together for a ridiculous amount of hours.

The Dungeon Siege series is a pretty solid, and fun, fantasy/dungeon crawler with co-op.

Borderlands does it very well also.

I second Diablo 2, or Diablo 3 when it someday maybe gets released.

And it looks like ME3 is going to have a form of coop as well.

I'm suggesting Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Tons of fun to be had in this game.

Buy the licenses somewhere cheap (I got mine from Amazon for ~$3/each) and activate it on Steam.

Use an XBOX controller to avoid finger frustration

Portal 2 might give a weekend's of fun. Single player might give a bit of fun for challenging each other on the same map too.

My suggestion would have been Dungeon Defenders....

:-(

Regardless... You are LIGHT years ahead of most of us.
I would KILL for my wife to play Texas Hold'em co-op on a machine.....

Plus 1 to you my friend.

I have NOT played Minecraft since a few large upgrades. I went for Terraria.... At least there was rewards. But I heard Minecraft fixed this.
RATS... Now I may have to boot it up....

I'd give Terraria a try. It goes on sale on Steam fairly regularly and is a lot of fun to play co-op. I enjoy it more than say Minecraft, but ymmv.

i know you said you arent sure about FPS games, but i thought borderlands was awesome, but not quite as frenetic as FPS games like BF3 or even LFD2. its cool to play solo, but man its pretty fun with someone else.

magicka was sooooo much fun to play with other people. you will kill the crap out of each other trying to remember the combos...but its inexpensive and funny.

+1 for lego games. in co-op they can be a lot of fun. the star wars ones are cool.

+1 for Dungeon Siege 3. it's a little wierd the way the co-op works, but playing it still fun.

Trine 2! $15 new on Steam. You can play local co-op on one PC so you only need to buy it once. I also definitely recommend at least 1 controller, the other person can use KB&M.

It's a beautiful game, very colorful and the physics effects are pretty neat.

You Don't Know Jack. It's better on consoles where you can have up to 4 players, but the PC version still supports 2 players. Doesn't require any video gaming skills at all, just a quick finger on the buzzer button.
