I have built the following pc already:

  • Case: Lian Li A70F
  • MB: Gigabyte X68
  • CPU: i7 2700K
  • Ram: Rip Jaws X Series 8GB DDR 2133 Model F3-17000CL9D
  • SD Corsair Force GT 180GB
  • HD WD Blue WD10EALX 1 TB
  • Optical: Lite On BD 12x
  • GFX: 2x EVGA GTX 570 (Fermi) in SLI
  • PSU: Lian Li 850 Watt
  • Current Monitor: Samsung 2280HD 1080p
I am looking for a a descent monitor to go along with my build. I have been looking at the catleaps 27" monitors but, just don't know if they are worth it or not. I have also been looking at this monitor. I use this build for all sorts from gaming to watching movies and so on. I have also been looking at monitor that does 120Mhz. Thanks in advance for any help choosing a monitor.

Well I recently bought a Benq XL2411T and wow, it was a lot smoother than I expected. I have just gone from CRT to LED, so my expectations were not so high. But this thing is very close to CRT-smoothness. And it even has 144hz refresh rate.

It does have limits when it comes to viewing angle though, as it is a TN panel. But if you sit right in front of it then it shouldn't matter. Also, the colors will probably be more accurate on an IPS panel. If you want the best of both worlds and are willing to pay for it then I suppose a Catleap is a good choice. I have not seen those in action, so I cannot tell you how smooth they are compared to the XL2411T.

I'm in the same situation, looking to get a new monitor since my old one died and it's either going to be the Dell u2412m 24" 1920x1200 monitor, or one of the Korean ones with the much higher resolution but then you have to gamble on getting a good one and having warranty issues if it breaks down.

I'd love to get that 30" Yamakasi 2560x1600 from ebay you linked to (http://www.ebay.com/itm/221148215610?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#rpdId) but that's just to big of a gamble, knowing my luck I'd get one with tons of dead pixels or something and would then have to ship it back, shipping would be $100+ probably to send it back to Korea.

There is a Microcenter 1.5 hours away from me that just got a new shipment in 10+ of the Auria 27" 2560 x 1440 monitors, the reviews on the micro center site are pretty solid and the good thing is I can go to the store and test out the monitor for dead pixels/defects first before I buy it, and if I don't like it I can just return it. And there is always the option of getting an extended warranty easily from squaretrade as well to protect it.

Bunch of threads below with reviews on it, some love it, some hate it. Hard to decide what to do, everyone pretty much agrees the stand stucks but the display is of course the main point of concern.

Slickdeals thread with tons of responses:

I actually learned about this monitor from the comment sections on a tomshardware review, seems this monitor is pretty popular from microcenter

I thank you all again for your inputs on monitor choices. I will have to do more research to see what I want. They all look great. I am gonna see if I can find one that will give the best of both 120Mhz plus 2560x1600 or as close as possible. I don't think that I will find one but, who knows.
