I want to get an MP3 player since a car I am planning on buying will allow me to plug in. It would be nice to not have to bring CD's in the car etc.

I looked at the Ipod nano, it looks nice. And a Samsung. Looks like I should get 1 gb minimum or maybe 2. I don't have a hug library of music, and I want to have enough space to not feel confined.

How much are you willing to spend? Does the car allow you to plug the player in through the headphone jack or does it come with an iPod dock connector? In the latter case, you'll obviously have to get an iPod to use it. A good site to check out is www.dapreview.net. The new Sandisk Sansa E200 looks pretty nice.

Just says MP3/WMA playback capablity in the Toyota RAV4 2006 brochure. Looks like MP3 players plug in directly with a cable in the center console compartment.

I'd spend maybe $200 for the player. I looked at ipod nana's today at the store, they looked nice. Samsung has a similar player with FM radio also.

the fm radio is pointless. I would go for the Ipod if i were you. You can buy a used one cheaper or get the nano if you want a new one.

After reading quite abit on the interent of reviews, and forum comments etc, I've boiled it down to:

Ipod Nano and the Samsung YP-5Z

The Samsung unit is very new, and looks to be a direct competiter to the Nano. It has the same length and width but is thicker, and has a 35 hour battery life vs 14 hours on the Nano. Price is exactly the same for all memory sizes.

I am leaning against the micro drive models since I will likely use this MP3 player in the car for trips, and roller blading.

Go with the Nano. It's smaller than the Samsung plus it uses flash memory, which means no moving parts for the drive. less chance of failure. My friend has one and loves it. I would like one too but I bought my color ipod less than a year ago, and if I was to upgrade it would be the 60g ipod video.

i think the mp3/wma play back is for your built in cdplayer meaning it can play mp3 cds. but if you see a slot im sure you can do it!

Thats exactly what it is. You dont need a seperate MP3 player with that car. Just burn MP3's to a CD, and play them in the cars CD player.

I've got a Nano and am happy with it. It has plenty of features. The part I like best is that it uses solid state flash memory instead of a hard drive. I can take it running and even put it in my pocket and forget about it and not worry about a hard drive getting damaged or malfunctioning.

If you do get the Nano the very next purchase should be a case. It really does attract scratches very easily.

The ipod nano looks pretty good. I mentioned the Samsung YP-5Z, and it is a flash memory player too. HxW is the same as the nano, but it is twice as thick. Battery life on the Samsung is 35 hours vs 14 hours on the Ipod Nano.

So it looks like the trade off between the two is size vs battery life. If I do get the Nano, a case is definitely in order since I've read that scratches are one of the biggist gripes.

BTW, yeah, I test drove a Toyota RAV4 the other day and figured out that MP3 stereo means it will play them on CD's. It does have an aux plug-in for MP3 players or even cassette I suppose.

I"m not really considering microdrive at this time. One of a number of reasons I am finally looking for an MP3 is size and NO SKIPPING. People say the microdrives can skip. I dont' need tons of space, so I'm thinking 2-4 GB will do me. Ultimately I may opt for two players - one for rollerblading etc (small and portable) and something a little bigger and longer batterylife.

I definitely don't like the Ipod Shuffle with no screen. I predict Apple with replace it someday with a basic screen.

The iSkin Duo is the one I picked. You can buy them online or at most Apple stores. It's one of the very few that cover the Nano completely. Well, almost. The only part that does not get covered is a small opening for the hold button. This case will even cover the touch wheel and screen. It's also nice and soft so it will absorb some hard knocks .

I have the sonic boom model because I love the colors.
