I'm looking to buy another 19" monitor for around 300-400 bucks. I was looking at the Optiquest Q95 but the refresh at 1280 is crap. Anyone have any other ideas? BTW if anyone is looking for a super high quality 19" monitor try the Viewsonic PT795. Although they discontinued it (because it was just so damn pimp!) if you can find one, they are AMAZING. Thanks.

True dat. I just looked but all the threads are stanky old. Thanks for the heads up though, too many people post without searching the archives first. Sorry!

Those threads are NOT old. There have been two or three lengthy discussions about the KDS AV-195TF and the Samsung 900NF monitor in the last 2 weeks.

My recommendation for a monitor in that price range is the KDS AV-195TF.

LXi will recommend the 900NF by Samsung, as will KarlHungus.

It's really a draw between those two monitors. Take your pick.

Read PCWorld a few months back they had a BIG 19" monitor review.

They said the best was: LG 995E, Samsung 950p, Sony G400

I must agree the Samsung monitors are great. In the last couple years those guys have really made some very high quality monitors, and won many awards. Two 19inch models that stand out are the 900IFT (Infinate Flat Tube) and the 900NF (Natural Flat). I have one, my brother has the other. Both are incredible, and at around $450 a steal for a really good monitor. Also they have the 950p which won best buy award from PC World, and you can find it for about $350. It's not as flat as the other 2, but is a very good monitor, and for $350-HOLY COW, that's awesome.

I have the Samsung 900NF at the office and at home I use a 19 inch Sony, for the money you can't beat the Samsung (there's also a rebate). The Sony does have a better picture, but I don't think it's enough to justify the price difference and the Samsung looks sleeker and less blocky. My brother-in-law uses a viewsonic PF? (19 inch perfectly flat) that he purchased a few months ago, when he saw the Samsung, he couldn't believe I paid under $600 Canadian for it, as he was looking at the same monitor when he bought his, but opted for the viewsonic as it was cheaper (he thinks the picture is nicer on the Samsung). I would highly recommend the Samsung, unless money is no object and you simply "need" to have the best there is, then I would say go for a Sony. I am making the above assumptions based on monitors that use the flat screen (or trinitron) tubes as I like them better than curved tubes, even for text. If flat screens isn't your bag, I have no advice as I haven't used a non flat screen for a number of years now.

If you don't mind paying a little more, I'd advise the true Trinitron (Sony).

The Sony E400 is an excellent monitor. Image quality is the same as the G400. Only difference is the price, and it takes a few seconds longer to warm up.

I'll give a thumbs up to the Samsung 900IFT. I've had one since last fall and I wouldn't want to part w/ it.

I have a question about the Samsung monitors in discussion. Does their flatness entail the two horizontal lines that are present on true-flat and trinitron monitors? Maybe it's just me, but I can never ignore those when using a flat monitor.

Vlad: Those infamouse 2 horziontal lines are present in EVERY trintron tube based monitor. The only place where you won't find them is in a monitor using another tube, like Invar Shadow Mask.

It's so funny that there are some people who are so annoyed by those lines that they avoid trintron monitors all together and then are are people like me and my friends who don't even see the lines.

On the other hand, i notice the infamous " slight curving " of the left hand corner on my sony g400 and other peopole don't see it at all, so i guess it all depends on different people's eyes.
