Recommendations on learning to solder?

Greetings all.

I THINK this is the right place to post this.

Does anyone have any recommendations for kits, books, sites or anything on learning to solder?

There are a number of projects that I'd like to attempt, but don't have basic soldering skills.

Any advice would be helpful.

They have many simple kits like this for you to learn on.

It's easy... I wouldn't get any books. If you're doing an installation in a car, I highly recommend you get a soldering gun that's electric powered and use an extension cord. My friend and I had all sorts of bad times trying to use a fire-started soldering gun in the wind... you can't do it wrong (at least I never screwed things up).

Soldering is easy. If I were you I would practice soldering wires together that aren't connected to anything until you get the hang of it. Basically, all you have to do (and I am assuming you mean soldering wires not copper pipe) is wrap the wires around each other, (like snakes mating)....preheat the soldering gun/iron....touch the soldering gun/iron to the back of the wires and heat them up for maybe 30 seconds or until hot, then touch the solder (rosin core) to the wires. When the wires are hot enough they will suck up the solder and the wires will be coated with liquid solder. Once the wires are covered with the solder, remove the iron and solder. Sometimes I have had to lightly touch the solder to the tip of the iron to get it started but not always. Have been soldering for 20 years now with no problems. Used to solder transistors to computer boards back in the old days.

I hope you're not trying to learn in order to install an Xbox mod chip. I think even experienced solderers would have trouble with it.
