Hey everyone, well I'm looking into building a new computer so far my specs are...
AMD 64 3200+
MSI K8T Neo2 Platinum
1024MB Dual Channel Kingston DDR PC3200 (Low Latency)
6800GT (Maybe ULTRA)
74GB Raptor HD

I've been looking for some PSU's to go along with this computer, and I noticed it'd need a pretty heavy one. I saw this thread at HardForum to stay away from certain PSU's (http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=792566)

I don't know too much about PSU's and haven't done a lot of research on them, so I was taking a look at some PSU's that weren't on the list and I saw this Rosewill 550W PSU(http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=17-182-010&DEPA=0)
I'm not sure if its a good brand or not, the specs on the PSU look pretty good though, (+12V@35A). I'm looking to stay in the price range of like $75-$80 tops, maybe a little more....

Thanks,
-Hex

Pick a good name with a nice warranty and the features want, then review. Repeat as needed. This will enhance your knowledge on the subject AND net you a good PSU that fits your needs and budget. The best you're going to get here is someone elses choice, based on their needs and circumstances.

Also remember you get what you pay for... That 500 watt Rosewill for $50 linked above most likely is not very good. For a 500 watt PSU expect to pay around $100+, not that you need 500 watts.

All true, except for the part about needing a 500w PSU. It's not about need so much as reach, especially when you're talking about hobby-related issues.

I understand that but it makes much more sense to buy a quality 400 watt PSU (Forton/Seasonic) as apposed to a crappy 500 watt unit.

If you can afford a good 500 watt PSU then go for it, but don't fool yourself into thinking a $50 PSU is going be a match for a $100 one.

Oh, I wasn't speaking at all to the idea of buying quality FRUs. That's where the 100% aggreement comes in.

I have an OCZ ModStream 450W. Great PSU at a decent price. Love all those sleeved cables and the single 120mm fan.

I like the Ultra X-Connect PSUs just for the custom sleeved cables and ability to only use the cables that you need.

Why buy a piece of shite power supply just because it's sleeved already?

You will spend a lot more time diagnosing problems on your PC with an X-Connect than you would buying a good Fortron or Zippy and sleeving it yourself.

Really? What kind of problems have you had? I haven't had any with the two I'm currently using.
