I wonder what the recommended refresh rate is, to alleviate eyestrain. This peice of crap is on 60Hz, and my eyes are hurting. All I know is, I can't go higher.

Higher = better?

Higher = better. Some people can see flicker below 75hz. I personally have to have the refresh at 72Hz or higher. I keep all my CRT's at 85Hz.

60Hz *really* hurts (and annoys) my eyes. In fact, if I look sideways at a monitor set to 60Hz, I can literally see the screen flickering.

Personally, I find 72-75Hz my "sweet spot". For some reason, 85Hz seems to bother my eyes (it looks "fuzzy", sort of, at least @ 1024x768). The two CRTs I've used can't go higher than 85Hz, so I've never experimented with refresh rates such as 90Hz or 100Hz.

9800Pro. 1280x1024. Can't stand anything lower than that (1024x768 is annoyingly large).

Hm, max refresh rate is 60hz at that resolution.

Possible refresh rates are more limited by monitors, especially older crt's. That could very well be the crt's max.

Is you monitor recognized by Windows TPG? W/ your video card, the max refresh rate at your current resolution should be in the rage of 75-100Hz IIRC.

Buy an LCD. It was probably the best thing I ever did. The SamSung CRT I used to have had to run at 85hz at 1280x1024 or it killed my eyes.

I say go as high as you can. I can spot a 60Hz monitor from across a room, it's that bad, especially if there is a white image up (like an explorer window).

I used 60hz for years. I thought it was ok until I found higher refresh rates. Now I have to use 85hz on a crt no matter what.

also I have 2 x 17" lcds - u can't compare LCD to CRT tho, LCDs are light years ahead in terms of picture quality..

I only use 85Hz minumum if I'm at a CRT. I prefer 100Hz if the monitor can support it. However I am only really around LCDs any more.

Everyone is different, I have lots of relatives who can't even tell if I set thing to 85Hz, but I can tell at 100. *shrug*

Ya, I like 100-120 if possible... Like someoen said earlier.. higher=better, although I'm sure there's a limit where there is no noticable improvement...

85Hz minimum for me. I prefer 100Hz+, but I'll sacrifice refresh rate to run at a higher resolution (as long as it's at least 85Hz).

I have dual monitors. I use the LCD for 2d apps. For gaming I set to 16x12 @ 75 hz. My eyes are fine even after two hours of gaming. With longer sessions, my eyes begin to hurt. Of course I usually don't game for longer than two hours at a time.
