I'd be interested in one, that only covers the nose and mouth.
The one I found of Amazon, respirator gas mask. is meant for paint, acid gas, or dust.

I've heard people get bronchitis.

I'm not sure about oil fields but I use these filters at work.

They attach to any generic 3M respirator. I use the older version of the 7500 and it works pretty good. Nice and snug around the chin. That's were I get a lot of the chemical vapors coming in when I spray.

To select a respirator, you have to start with the chemicals of concern. Which chemicals are you trying to filter?

There's generally no "one size fits all" kinds of respirators.

A "half-face" respirator like the OP described will work for some things...other things will need a full-face respirator, while yet other things encountered in an oil field should only be encountered with supplied air.

I worked Haz-Mat jobs for 15 years...and also spent a few years in the gas fields in Wyoming.

I"m planning on possibly working at Williston, North Dakota, oil fields.

If one knows a good forum or sub-forum, at a different site, that specializes in the area or kind of word, it would be nice to know. City-data seems to be the only good one I can find. Reddit has nothing decent.

Thanks for the response.

It depends on what type of oil field work you are doing. I'm sure your employer will provide you with something...if they won't, then god have mercy on your soul

If you're afraid of respiratory issues, you should probably check out the MSDS-data for the chemicals they commonly use and oil itself.

You do know...with the recent drop in oil prices, those jobs have been going away...

This is the kind of thing I did for many, many years. I "boomed" the construction jobs like that. (and that's part of how I earned my user name) I was a "Boomer."

I'm not saying there are no job opportunities left in the Bakken fields...just that it's not what it was just a couple of years ago.

I have several of the 3m 6800 series, I'm still alive ! after 5-6 years of using it.

This is the filter suggestion/selection guide, depending on what you'll be expose to.

Thanks for this response. Unfortunately all the 6800 series on Amazon, are full face masks, covering the eyes, which is undesirable.

I'm mainly interested in half facepiece respirator that only covers the nose or mouth.

Would those designated for paint be okay for working in the oil fields? If so, how long does an individual filter last?

Why do you need to buy a respirator for work? If it's needed, your company should supply any necessary PPE...including respirators.

This.

You should be having a fit test for a mask to know what size you are (also, the beard must go if you have one) and have access to any cartridges required for the work involved.
