I need to record Skype calls in a way that prevents tampering with the recordings. Any ideas? Thanks.

The best software for automatically recording and encoding all audio and video calls in Skype is Pamela.

Its all automatic, saving to the bit rate of your choice, completely stealth etc. Great software imo, worth the price.

Some good software suggestions for recording Skype calls in this thread, but I'm not sure if they are helping the OP.

He asked for a method that would prevent tampering of the recordings.

I for one would like to know what he means by this.. because AFAIK all these programs store the recording as an audio file on the local computer, and any of these recordings can be edited.
I guess it depends on who you want to prevent from tampering with them... because the recording software alone won't do that.

I guess I should have been clear about the nature of the recording. I forget the consumer-centricity of even higher-end tech forums sometimes. (Anyone know of a tech forum more suited for the likes of us singleton entrepreneurs, or are they too busy making deals to hang out on forums - I know I'm not, especially post-08
)

Like it or not some of my staff, as well as business associates, are conversing on Skype. They find it convenient and I don't blame them. There are certain conversations though which I'm actually obliged to record and hold as potentially admissible evidence for regulatory reasons, and I've been a bit pissed off on finding out that within the last few months that such conversations have taken place on Skype.

All the calls that go through the central exchange are recorded, but casual use of Skype + IM is common too - despite providing staff with IP phones at home / notebook clients as well. I need to record calls on Skype on a PC, timestamp/encrypt it in a tamper-evident manner, and store it in a central location accessible and searchable by authorised staff.

I ought to just say, to head off any extension of the slightly irrelevant discourse above, that no-one I'm dealing with has any issues with this, it's just that it has to be done for specific conversations for regulatory reasons that people are aware of, and I'm trying to cover all the comms channels that we use.

Skype is one element which doesn't fit in well to any of the solutions that we use, and the comms guys that I've talked to have no good solutions beyond Heath-Robinson setups which I know won't work in practice.

If it's not possible then banning Skype is an option - and pretty much a last resort - but I will do it if I have to, so that I'm protected from an unenforceable liability. I'm trying to find a way around that.

It isn't well-known, but a good free solution is,
http://callgraph.biz/free-skype-recorder

I used to use the earlier version of their software a year back and they provided unlimited recording. Unlike Pamela, which has some kind of time-limit for free recording.

I can vouch that callgraph works well for skype-to-skype recording. Haven't really tried it for much else.

On their site, it seems that you can host an account with them to upload the conversations. Or even self-hosting. I've spoken with one of the devs, and they are a friendly bunch. :thumbsup:

Record the calls to a flash memory device. Then you can lock it up in a secure place.
