Beware: These things degrade the signal severely. It will work, but if you think it will look nice, you have another think coming...

I don't think most people would be expecting a perfect picture when using a modulator. But this is nice for people that have older sets around and want to be able to use a DVD player. It got a 5 star rating on Amazon from purchasers.

Actually these do not degrade the picture at all. I have bought two of them. One was for my 6 year old 27" GE bedroom TV that was the cheapo model from Fry's with nothing but the cable in connecting. I hooked a Recoton RF modulator to it (different model than the one posted here) and it works perfect. The DVD picture is more clear than the Comcast cable picture. The second was a GE RF modulator I bought at Target for my cousin's old 17" TV. Again, once I hooked it up, the DVD quality picture was as good or better than the cable picture being broadcast.

By the way OP, good post. The Recoton I bought from eBay, was around 8.00 shipped (nice and cheap). The second one I bought was around 16 or 17.00 from Target around 2 months ago.

Well, here is your problem. A 6 year old GE POS and a 17" TV can't even reproduce a good signal right, so the difference will be nil for you. I have this exact device, and the picture looks like 4ss, sorry. Waste of money IMHO, you are better off getting a good set of progressive/component cables instead.

Sounds Like He does not have component hookup on his TV just RF inputs. You wouldn't even need a modulator if you have component or S-Video hook ups. The modulator is only needed for older TVs that only have an RF connector for an input and no other way to hook up a DVD player.

If you bothered to read my post I said I have ONE cable in connect. How am I going to use progressive/component cables instead??? This is the only way to get a DVD player on this TV. No one would buy this RF connector unless they had a setup like like mine so what's your point??? Not the greatest TV around but as I said there isn't any degredation in signal for me.

Not to threadcrap but I've seen RCA RF Modulator for under $10 at Big Lots quite often..... but yes, cheaper than Bestbuy/CC/RadioShack.....

Also, if you've got an old vcr lying around that has RC A/V in you could most often use that to patch your dvd/xbox/ps2 etc. to your TV. I had the same problem but my VCR which i was about to throw away took care of the problem - so it got to live a littile longer.

Good post, been looking for one for my parents, Radio Shack wanted $30 for one, ridic! Of course this won't put out component video quality, it's for TVs so old that they only have an RF input, this isn't a contest to see who has a 1080p HDTV. Question: The Comcast Motorola cable box has RCA inputs, but I think to make it cheaper they didn't enable the function. Has anyone gotten an adapter for it from them for free? I'll call, but was wondering if there was any precedent. I will see if Biglots has one as well, I've heard reported elsewhere as well that they have one for $10. As for using a VCR, will Macrovision screw up the signal on most of them? I'm unsure, haven't tried it.

You could do what i did and buy a cheap vcr that has rca outs and use those to hook up your vcr.. connect the vcr through cable inlet.

however, this is obviously a better deal.. when i bought my cheap vcr, it was the same as the RHF adapter. Good find.
