Hey guys. My pretty much brand new and rarely used 1tb caviar black decided to take a massive crap on me last night and have a SMART read error and basically windows kept telling me that the drive was on imminent failure. Per windows request i attempted to backup files from it and it basically froze the whole system. At this point i performed a hard reset and during bootup CHKDSK "Strongly Reccomended" i let it scan the drive, etc. It spent about 6 hours doing so and "fixed" a bunch of crap.
So, most of the data is recoverable, the problem is i didn't really care about most of what was on there. The part that is frustrating as hell is literally out of almost 500 gigs of crap, the 200megs or so that i wanted to recover (which was a bunch of screenshots from every MMO I've played since Everquest 1, yes i'm a power nerd, yes, those are memories and important to me) Is one of only 2 folders on the entire drive that windows tells me is "corrupt and unreadable", the other is the favorites folder in /users, etc.
Am i basically up shit creek without a paddle at this point? I would really like to recover these files as less than 2 weeks ago i spent 2 days with chkdsk recovering corrupted partitions on the old drives i pulled them from. I literally put those files on this 1tb 2 weeks ago and this caviar black hadn't been touched since i installed it, it was literally empty and unused until 2 weeks ago, where i wrote the files i pulled from the old hard drives, and it hasn't been accessed since. And for some reason it decides to fail.
If anyone knows of any tool that might help, at this point i might even be willing to seek out a professional if there is a possibility i could recover those, of course that would depend on how much they're wanting to bend me over, but, such is life. Thanks guys, would appreciate any help on this matter ;-).
