So I've been talking to recruiters every day or so about new job opportunities. Most of them call me, ask if I'd be interested, do a simple talk, then setup a phone interview with the employer.

This one I get a phone call from the other day begins the same way. I tell her I'm interested, and then she says the following:

"Well, before we pass you on to the company for a phone screen, we like to do an in-depth interview ourselves. This will take 30 minutes on the phone."

A little odd, but I say no problem.

Then:

"OK - you'll need to fill out 6 forms before our phone screen with the company. They include an application for employment, how you heard about us, background check, information for W2, and personality profile."

I get this email from this lady and it really does have all of these forms. *AND* I'm expected to print AND mail them.

F?

All of this without even talking to the employer to find out if I or them are even INTERESTED.

I'm thinking of scratching this one.

You'll find out that this is fairly common for head hunting companies. They do this to prevent sending unqualified people to their "client" (the actual employer for the position) because it would reflect rather poorly of the headhunter/headhunter company if they sent in any Joe off the street.

Yeah well it's annoying, and I've never had to do it.

Yeah it sucks. Been to some that you take tests to prove you know what you are doing as well.

Yeah, some recruiters are like that or they want you to come in and meet them face to face. I tell them no thanks.

There are plenty of recruiters where you don't have to do that crap.

I'm sorry in order to continue ranting on these forums, you'll have to submit a few forms as well. Get to it.

HA!

I wonder how much spam and crap posts we would cut down on if we had a 100 question "forum posting experience" section to the registration page.

You should also beware of what recruiters and "fill a body" places are. Recruiters work with you to figure out your career goals and try to give you access to a job that meets your requirements - goal oriented, make sure you are presented properly. Companies use recruiters to find special candidates to fit specific requirements of the job. Building a sound relationship with a few actual recruiters is invaluable to further your career. Believe it or not this how a good majority of director level or above candidates are found.

Fill-a-body are contracting places where they are only looking to put a body in the seat, these should be avoided like the plague. Although you should keep them in your back pocket because they do have a finger on the pulse of what's out there.

eh, higher up positions are filled by retained search firms, and not recruiters (at my company at least).

Same thing and the point I was trying to make a real "recruiter" is one who searches for and finds good candidates.
