This game is 6-7 years old, but it was on sale recently on Steam, so I picked it up. I played the original C&C
I'm on possibly the last mission in the Russian campaign (first campaign I've tried) and I think the co-commander approach has ruined single player. I've done all missions so far on hard, but this last mission my co-commander is just being insanely stupid. He's constantly sending out troops a few at a time at the enemy base to harass it. All that's happening is that when the enemy does the same, his base is mostly empty, his defenses are a joke, so I'm having to manage my defenses and his. He's also expanding his base up the map, which makes no sense at all. Meanwhile my base is impregnable and I'm building up an assault force. But doing that while constantly fending off the attacks to him (he also has a ridiculous fetish for building a naval base, which falls quickly in the several tries I've done) is making it just too hard. The game is constructed to be enemy against two competent players, but he's barely worth anything.
I have to say I think co-commanders ruined single player for Red Alert 3 and it's a damn shame.
As an aside, it's strange that RTS went from being a hugely popular genre to more or less dead from what I can tell.
