North Korea, supported by proxy with China and Russia, could be a legitimate threat....only because China and Russia could use them as pawns.

I hate to be "that guy", but I think you mean guerrilla. Unless great apes have battles in that film; I really haven't seen it yet, maybe indeed that is the plot .

Planet of the Apes was already remade.

Oh God, in 1984 it was hard to believe but today it's even harder. Maybe if it was a terrorist attack of some kind.

The original kind of scared me when I was a kid in the 80s. That could have really happened, or so most of us felt.

This movie won't have that going for it so will probably suck.

The original was a portrayal of [edit]guerrilla[/edit] warfare set in the most unlikely of places - the center of the United States. It was still silly in its execution. Remember that in the original it was the cubans - not the Russians - who launched a sneak attack and managed to land their forces in the plains of the central US. Just as laughable as the North Koreans parachuting into Washington.

The original used Cubans and Russians in a multiple spearhead attack. Remember, the Russians came over in planes disguised as passenger flights, the Cubans came up through Mexico... not really as farfetched as it looks, especially these days with illegals pouring over our southern border.

The concept of the movie (director John Milius) also had some very pro-2nd Amendment items in there, too, for those of you who studied the film like I did.

Was the acting a bit campy? Sure, but it wasn't Star Wars, either... oh, wait, that had some pretty campy acting in it, too.

I went into the Army in 1986, not long after Red Dawn was released, and, in fact, was stationed at Fort Carson, CO, just down the hill from NORAD (which got nuked in the movie.) At the time, we trained to repel the Russian hoardes (we still hadn't learned our lesson about guerrilla and insurgent warfare...) so, again, that movie wasn't that farfetched. We used to joke that all our training would be wasted... the first thing the Russkies would do would be to nuke NORAD... and wipe out Fort Carson (and, for that matter, the Air Force Academy) before we could even get out of the barracks.

...as far as Red Dawn 2012... sure, I'll go see it at the theatre. It obviously has a bit of a different plot to it, but it looks interesting enough.

Where as Jennifer Grey and Lea Thompson kicked ass with machine guns and RPG's... it looks like the new movie sports some kinder, gentler nonsense. Booo....

Why couldn't they at least used Harry Dean Stanton to reprise his role...?

Epic fail this movie is

The Norks will attack us using their uber-modern T-55 tanks and a mighty flotilla of invincible towing barges....

http://youtu.be/f37K0hIv3zk

Not to mention the fact that millions of US folks own a weapon if not an armory...

Maybe they lead with an EMP that knocks out most of US's higher defensive capability. I don't think there can be many realistic scenarios where the US the successfully invaded. Just go with the flow and try to enjoy the movie.
