Red Dead Redemption is available for download on Xbone.

And the fancy Xbone One X One has alleged enhancements for the game. Damn well better for 30 friggen dollars.
Yeah it's available for preload..about 100gb download. I hear if you use an Australian Xbox account you can play it early. I have mine reserved for Friday at best buy for my PS4 pro.

The Xbox one X may offer a little more umph in resolution as per the example resolution in shadow of tomb raider vs PS4 pro and anyone wanting it just for 4k, should get one if that's the case but the PS4 pro is fine at 4k even if it's not naturally native. I mean I couldn't tell much of a difference between the two. I gave my Xbox one to my brother because he plays online a lot and all his friends all have Xbox.

I can honestly say while I had it I had 4 or 5 exclusive titles for it, played them for a bit and then didn't touch it after that. It sat there collecting dust which is why I gave it to my brother. I prefer the game collection on PS4 despite us getting a bunch of remasters up until recently.

Has there been any information regarding a PC release?

Supposedly it's planned or there was a leak about it on Linkdin where an employee put it as one of the projects he worked on but nothing official. I'd be very willing to wait and play it on PC, but at this point I may just break down and get it for my Xbox One X.

My advice is pony up for the OneX. These guys cover console performance really well https://www.youtube.com/user/DigitalFoundry/featured

If you get either of the other Xboxen you will get the worst experience possible on modern consoles. The X is as good as it gets OTOH. Regardless of res it is worth $200 for a, what is often, significantly better experience. Though I personally chose PS4pro because I have gaming PCs for the xbox titles, and Spiderman, Zero Dawn, and God of War are must plays IMO.

My son has offered me a cash bribe to let him play the game first. I laughed pretty good because he has not touched the ps4 yet. He was addicted to red dead and this is the title that has him ready to become a dirty console peasant. I will let him play first out of love, but will take the bribe and spend it on any dlc the game offers.
Eh, I'm not sure an extra $200 is worth it to me for a little better graphics (as I mentioned, I wasn't super picky about this sort of thing). I was looking at some site's "Xbox S vs X" comparison and they had several screenshots of the differences and they were, IMO, fairly minor. That's only a small selection but I think it gives an idea.

One thing that might be a plus for the X is resellability. Obviously I'd get more money out of it (vs the S) if I decide to sell it at some point, but additionally I think it would be easier (more people wanting an X than an S in the future). Also I think it would sell for more, percentage-wise (i.e. I could sell it for 50% of original price whereas the Xbox One S I could only sell for 40$ of original price). That's a guess but whatevs.

Still deciding. Honestly I think I'd rather have the X, but I'm having a difficult time justifying $200 for slightly better graphics (IMO), more-or-less.

If you have a 4k hdr tv than the Xbox one X would make sense but if not, the other model will do fine. If you are buying it just for this game, the PS4 pro has had bundles with the game for free I think for $399.

It can be more than just IQ differences. Even with the reduced res and eye candy performance can suffer, resulting in dropped frames and a significantly worse experience than on the X. A game like RDR2 is likely to show the weakest of the consoles, in its worst light too. But if you are that meh about the game experience and $200 tips that scale for you, go with the cheaper model.

Yeah I have a 4K HDR TV.

I was wondering about that too, either a PS4 Pro or the Xbox. As I think I mentioned though, I'm not a big gamer anymore so saying one system or the other has this exclusive or that exclusive game probably won't matter to me.

Huh. Ultimately, it probably doesn't matter that much to me whether I get Xbox One S, Xbox One X, or a PS4 Pro. I'm mainly just interested in RDR2 (though may be interested in future games) and am pretty lenient when it comes to graphics or other things. So I guess it don't f'ing matter, that much. Weeeee!

In that case if you can still find or of those PS4 bundles then you should be good since you are mainly interested in this game. For me I can get the Xbox games also on PC.

So with performance in mind, which is the best option? The last console I bought was a PS3 and it kinda irritates me the way they are seemingly pushing out a new console every year. If Rockstar goes dumb with this one too and never releases it on PC, I'll eventually bite the bullet and get whichever console (I'd prefer Playstation) will run it best.

There has been rumors of a pc version but probably a year from now or later. Who knows nothing has been confirmed yet.

As for the best version only 1 day or so left until we get reviews. ACG and digital foundry will probably do a review of it after Friday. I only have a PS4 pro, switch, and PC now so I'm getting it for PS4. Been waiting 8 years to finally play it from start to finish because I let a family member borrow red dead 1 and never got it back. After that I went to college and never had the chance to play it and when I was done I had moved on to the PS4/PC.

Edit: Here's an article about the discounted Xbox and PS4 bundles.

It will look great on either one so up to you which you go with.

I doubt it.

Red Dead Redemption has been around a while and they never made a PC version.
I still have my PS3 in a box somewhere but truth be told, I dont like playing most games with the gamepad, so I will probably just take a pass.

Xbox one x will run it best without question.

True, but now both companies use AMD hardware now. And Intel or Nvidia will likely throw money at them, if they have not already done so, to make certain it runs great on their stuff. GTA V was an unqualified success when it first released on PC, and every hardware reviewer would make RDR2 a staple of their test suites no doubt. Just makes sense to release later. A retailer showed it being released 12/31/19 before pulling it. And Best Buy sent me an update saying my preorder would ship on 12/31/2017 lol. I took a screenshot. Probably intended the same date as the other one in Europe but goofed it even worse. I would say it is even money or better it comes to PC in a year or so. /speculation

I got the same email from best buy then an hour later I got another email saying it was a mistake and that my copy will be available for pick up Friday. I was pretty shocked because I didn't see r the 2017 at first I thought it said Dec 2018, I was like whaaat?

I was going to wait on this, but it's been rated so highly I'm not sure I can. The question is, should I just stick with the normal price or jump up to the special edition with some extra content?

Not sure what the extra content will be but from what I can tell this game will be long enough as it is. The first one was huge and so will this one. You can always get the extra content later.

Yeah I suppose. There were some bonus missions and extra perks to help move along faster, but the base game is probably plenty. I was also back and forth on the digital vs. physical versions, but just ended up preordering the digital so I can load it up and be ready to go immediately. I don't forsee trying to trade this game in anyway while it's still worth much.

I would have got it digital as I have a 2tb hard drive in the PS4 pro. But I got the game for $47 from best buy due to the gamer's club and a $5 best buy certificate. So I will have the digital copy. It's 2 discs, 1 to install, another to play. Really excited to experience it tomorrow after work.

Nice. My GCU expired a few months back... very sad they discontinued that program.

Had no idea it was 2 discs, but I guess it makes sense for a game of this scale. Something had to fill up those blu-rays eventually.

I saw the Xbox One deal at Best Buy, and all I can say is... dang, they are pushing this game hard. But I guess it's not too crazy since Black Friday is only a month away, which means this is really more like an early Black Friday sale. (I'm expecting about the same discount on the Xbox One.) A coworker was talking about picking up the game and a console to play it on, so I suggested the S given probably not wanting to spend a ton for a single game. Although, I did mention the benefits of the X if desired, but with the discounts, the X costs twice as much.

I was tempted a bit to pick up the Xbox One X to replace my S model, but I thought about it... and I don't even turn on my Xbox One to begin with. It doesn't help when there's a PC with a 1080 Ti sitting right by it, and Microsoft puts their games out on PC anyway.

IMO if you are in the market for an X1 there is really no reason to NOT get the X1X.
I have a decent enough PC and if I had my original xbox one I could have traded it in for an X1X but seeing how I never played the Xbox I stuck with the PS4 pro.

Well sounds like you aren't who I was talking about then since you aren't in the market for an X1.

Yea there are a lot of bundle deals going on. This is the game to help push sales for both consoles
It's cool that the X will be pushing the game at native 4k due to more memory and a better processor than the PS4 pro. But I don't feel the need to spend $500 to play this game when I mainly am more concerned with PS4 exclusives.. everything else on PC.
