Red Dead Redemption 2 pushed me over the edge, I think....

Never seen a two hour install on a PS4 game. I could have downloaded the thing digitally in that time.

Yeah I didn't time the install on my Xbox but wow, it was a long time. Probably an hour or so? I thought downloading it would be faster too but I don't think so actually. I looked at the size left when it was running and it seemed to be like 12-15 MB/sec, if I can remember right. I don't get quite that while downloading, haha, more like 5 Mb/s.

The install on my PS4 pro with a hybrid 2tb drive took about 45 minutes or more. Maybe a little longer. Then it asked for the play disc and I thought it was done but in reality it was still installing stuff.

For some reason I thought they were bringing RDR2 to the PC.

Looks like I'll be waiting until the PS5 is released to grab a really cheap PS4 and RDR2. I can't justify spending $400+ for a single video game so I'll just wait until the console is dirt cheap and just get it then.

I didn't look into it that much, but I noticed Sony has a streaming service for their games which works on PC. From what I could tell though it was only for PS3 games...?

Sony does have a streaming service but it works through their TV's. I do not know of it working with PC but I'm sure that is possible. I have a Sony TV in my bedroom and it has the streaming service built in. It sucks IMO. I tried out the free trial which allows you to stream PS3 games and even hardwired in the streaming service sucked bad. Visually the games looked washed out and performance sucked with lots of lag. This was on a 120mbps web connection on a 1gb network at my home.


Back on topic; I love this game but I hate that even with a mask on people somehow know who I am. Rob someone....Arthur is now wanted...wtf.

It seems you need new clothes and even a new horse as well if you really don't want to get recognized.

Odd that you would need a new horse. The other option is to donate all your money to the camp, then go surrender to the authorities. This way they don't take all your money when you are arrested. I've wanted to fish and found a legendary fishing spot but I didn't have a pole or any lure. I'm still very early in the game, about 13% of the story.

I got to experience the bear attack scene from The Revenant. Rode up on a trapper talking about how he could "already taste her". I got off and started tracking, which made my rival salty. I get to the top of the ridge, and this bear bum rushes me before I know what is happening. It proceeded to maul me very much like the movie scene, while I knifed it. It threw me a few times, the last of which I was able to get out my repeater and shoot it in the face, dropping it. I immediately took a health tonic, then skinned it. It was pretty danged epic. One of the few times I regret not doing vid capture. I would love to watch that again.

Whoever called it a slow burned nailed it. It felt more like watching an animated western than playing a game at first. It is everything that made the first game great. They truly understand the saying that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. They have also done a brilliant job of taking that world, and adding a depth and detail to it, that enhances the experience. If you are ADHD it may not hold you, but it hog tied me.

The bear got me first too but when I lost my save and had to restart I tracked it slowly and was able to shoot it from far away. I gave it a few double barrel shots to the face.

Last night I went out after one of the western shooters in the photographs you get early on. I think it was Billy midnight. I ended up being stuck on a train and rode half way around the map just looking at the views because I could not get out. Apparently the train does stop but only at stations and there didn't seem to be one for a while.

I heard that you could ask for rides from strangers but I didn't find any. I realized I could have just got out at a previous station and bought a ticket back to valentine. Since I was already at Rhodes I played black jack for a couple of hours.

I'm early in the game but the story does not seem to push you to explore. I didn't realize I had to complete most missions from my camp to be able to access the fence in emerald ranch. Now I'll be spending a lot of time trying to rob stage coaches. It really is a explore at your own pace and do whatever you want type of game.

Try game mode and all motion interpolation off. Using any motion interpolation can cause artifacts in both games and tv shows and movies. Samsung’s motion handling is better than my LG TV but I still recommend not using it if you can.

I somehow ended up with another xbox. My brother didn't need my old one anymore so I traded it in and there was a hundred $100 off in addition for buying red dead 2 so I ended up with bundle deal with another game too.

I do like how the game looks a lot sharper on the oneX than it does on the PS4 pro. Larger field of view and things are much clearer in the distance. Just noticed a tiny bit of input lag though or it could be that I haven't used xbox so long I'm not used to pressing the button down hard enough. Xbox A,B,XY buttons always felt weird to me.

HDR on both platforms still sucks. It's not real hdr as a video showed on YouTube. Everything looks more washed out on both systems with it on so I leave it off for this game.

Facial features too are clearer, the small ones you usually don't notice on the pro. But visually the game is much nicer at native 4k.

Maybe it's just me but weather change was more drastic and frequent on the Xbox than the PS4.

Almost done the first camp but I've been really distracted with all these random encounters I come about.

Yeah it seems like they are sending an SDR dynamic range in an HDR container and simply upping the white point for certain light sources. No real tone mapping curve and no real extended dynamic range.

My TV doesn't have game mode, but I tried fiddling around with the picture smoothing options (soap opera effect), and one of the settings sorted it out. Too much work. But it's done now. Thank you.

There are some great gun fights in this game, and the kill cam is sweet.

On performance: Pro At 1080 with SS I experience the dropped frames in Valentine, that DF experienced in their testing. CPU is driving the struggle bus.

Most do, mine does as well and all it seems to do is drop the backlight and brightness. I use standard mode on mine because I like the color representation better.

I was watching my friend play, he tried to shoot the bullet catcher in the head and he caught it. Immediately after I thought, what happens if you don't aim for his head? I got the game this weekend and aimed for his balls. Yep, I shot him. The dude whines about being shot and why you didn't aim near his head. Then main dude comes out and tries to awkwardly play it off as part of the show. We've noticed if you antagonize them they tend to screw up. I wonder what would happen if you spam antagonize and aim for the head. No bounty by the way, totally worth it.

I thought about that as well. I saved prior to any interaction to play out different scenarios but I was too slow lighting the dynamite. Plus it was more satisfying seeing them up close.
