I remember I tried to play it again a few months back and there was no one online. It was actually a really fun game. True PC FPS.

It got a large boost in player count after the patch but slowly players are fizzling out again.

I can find a handful of populated servers for each game type, but a lot of the servers have some bots in them.

Its a shame really as the game should have shipped like it is now back in September. Even now after the so called 'relaunch' there are still some minor things that are broken. The fundementals work ok though.

Its a pretty rewarding shooter, more people that play the better really. Get those passes handed out!

I think it's a great game and the GOTY re-release only made it better. It's not too hard to find a server in Europe but I hear its pretty dead on the US side.
It really is a true PC FPS and the classic/realism modes give a good sense of realism without being a straight up milsim type game like ARMA or Operation Flashpoint.
Having played it for quite a few hours (still do on occasion) I almost laugh when I see some people call Battlefield games realistic. But I think it's also why the game isn't terribly popular, death comes quickly and unexpectedly and usually you will never know who shot you or from where. But it is very rewarding if you can adapt to it.

I played the original RO, and I pre-ordered Ro2 and still play it today. In fact I run my own 64 player server (out of Las Vegas, NV), but sadly I have to add bots to keep it going.

I don't think Russia vs Germany will ever develop a large player base in the US. There are a couple of full mods coming out. A WWII Pacific Theater conversion and one for Vietnam. I think once these are released the player base will grow exponentially.

They really kinda shot themselves in the foot big time by releasing such a bugged game a few weeks before battlefield 3. It was a really fun game though, and unfortunately it was dead when I tried to go back to it.

If you're good at FPS's and you play this like call of duty you can really upset people. Going like 60-10 in this game starts the hackusations.

While it is possible to go rushing around with one of the few automatics available and be all "Call of Duty" and do somewhat well (I do this myself on occasion with the MKB or PPSH) but if the enemy team has the least bit competent riflemen it's most likely you will get your head blown off repeatedly while trying to rush.
