Ortiz + Manny = greatest hitting tandem in the AL and best RBI machine in MLB, only rival in MLB for homeruns are Pujols/Rolen. Boston is on pace to have 5 10+ game winners for only the 2nd time in their history. Trot Nixon, Pokey Reese, and Youkalis will all be back from injuries for the Chokeland A's series out west. Keith Foulke is back for tonight's game from back spasms. Boston has only given up 2 Unearned Runs since trading NOMAR and getting gold glovers Cabrera and Mientzkavicz (sp??). Pedro pitched a complete game shutout, the first since 2000 2 weeks ago.

Boston is leading the head to head matchup against NY 7-4 this year, with an unheard of sweep in the Bronx on the road. NY's Sheffield is a battered doll, only a matter of time before he completely breaks down physically. Giambi won't be back, according to Torre. NY has the worst starting pitching staff in 15 years, with a bunch of frail arms that will probably be injured again, and will have to rely on 100 year old (?) El Duque. Quantrill, Flash Gordon, and Rivera have been overused and have the most appearances of any team in baseball due to their horrid starting pitching. They could break at any time. So yeah, I am loving Boston's chances. We'll see you in the playoffs NY!!!!!

Well Giambi and Sheff out for a bit, and pitching really sucks, so, maybe the Yankee's will keep slumping but I have a feeling it's not going to last that long. I'm a Sox fan (trying to quit) and I can't see them keeping up this streak that much longer. But I can hope. Would be nice to see Yankee's in 2nd place at end of season, and even better if they miss out on wild card (Odds of that happening: Slim to none).

The Yanks went 5-5 all with teams at or above .500. The BoSux went 9-1 will teams all .450 or under. Not much of a hot streak, more like an easy streak.

The only thing keeping NY in the thick of things is their potent offense. Boston had one of the most devastating and prolific offenses of all time last year, and still couldn't win. Know why? Great pitching will beat great hitting any day of the week. For example, last week, when NY faced Johan Santana (best pitcher in the AL) and scored one run in 8 innings. Good pitchers will shut them down in the playoffs. And with ARod hitting under .200 with RISP, NY's chances of even making it past the first round of the playoffs against good pitching in a 5 game series are slim to none. I agree, NY will probably win the wild card because of their easy schedule, but it seems everything is coming to the last 6 games against Boston that will decide whether they can hold off the surging Sox and win the division. Boston needs to win 2 out of 3 against both Anaheim and Texas at Fenway this week, and they will be a lock for the wildcard since Anaheim/TX/Oakland all play each other multiple times in the next month.

When was the last time the Red Sox even won the division?

We all know when the last they won the World Series (it was a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long time ago), but they haven?t even won the division in a very long time either.

LOL

It was refreshing to see a couple of sensible Sox fans but I knew it was only a matter of time before the rabid Sox fans showed their faces again.

Its funny how history has taught them nothing.

LoL, when was the last time NY has blown a 10.5 game lead in the division? hmmmmm

Whinebrenner is losing his edge, I'd have him checked out since he didn't up the payroll anymore before the trading deadline. Or maybe Cashman just told him, "Look George, there's NOTHING we do! AZ's GM is still pissed at us since we screwed him over a couple years ago, so they won't give us Randy. I even offered him an extra 30 million! The best we can get is Loaiza, he did win alot of games last year despite his 6+ ERA this year! Once he puts on the pinstripes, he will transform into a mini Unit, you'll see!"

Sheffield should play today, the only reason he was out on sunday was because of astroturf. Arod can still hit as shown by the Toronto series. Pitching isn't as bad as everybody thinks, bullpen is by far the best in baseball, especially when Steve Karsay gets back (tomorrow).

And oh yeah, did I mention that Sheffield should be AL MVP? The guy had several game tieing home runs in the 9th inning of opposing teams closers. Pretty much every home run he's hit was either to tie the game or to put yanks ahead. That's clutch!

You know, i went up to boston 2 weeks ago for the warped tour, i figured the hell with it, i might as well go to fenway. Never before have i seen so many people clinically depressed over a baseball team. the dude who gave a tour of fenway basically admitted that the sux suck ass, and even tho they have a nice history (pre-1918), this team is toast until the end of time. face it, the cubbies will win a world series before the Sux do.

PS Im a Mets fan(WOOHOO)

Not exactly

Records of the teams when the series began

Boston Played -
Chicago - 60-58
Toronto - 52-72
Detroit - 60-66

NY Played -
Anaheim - 67-54
Cleveland - 63-62 (And on a 7 game losing streak)
Toronto - 53-74 (not exactly at or above .500)

With the exception of Anahiem (who is hot also, but NY played at home),
the teams played were not all that different.

Do I think the sox will take the division from the Yankees, I'd say its probably
unlikely, but it wouldn't be a surprise. The Yankees aren't playing good baseball
right now (regardless of who they are playing) and the Red Sox are.
Regardless, the Yankees ought to be routing hard for the Red Sox, because would
you rather playing the Angles in the first round or roll over the Twins.

The Boston Red Sox Suck Jokes
Taken from SoxSuck.com.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do Trot Nixon and Michael Jackson have in common?
They both wear a glove on their right hand for no apparent reason!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: What do the Red Sox and lawn furniture have in common?
A: They both fold and end up in the cellar after Labor Day!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Boston Red Sox fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they were Red Sox fans, too.

Not really knowing what a Red Sox fan was, but wanting to be like their teacher, hands explode into the air. There is, however, one exception. A girl named Lucy has not gone along with the crowd.

The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.

"Because I'm not a Red Sox fan."

"Then," asks the teacher, "what are you?"

"Why I'm proud to be a Yankees fan.", boasts the little girl.

The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Lucy why she is a Yankees fan.

"Well, My Dad and Mom are Yankees fans, and I'm a Yankees fan, too!"

The teacher is now angry. "That's no reason," she says loudly. "What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron, What would you be then?"

A pause, and a smile. "Then," says Lucy, "I'd be a Red Sox fan."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: What is the difference between a Fenway Frank and a Yankee Frank?
A: You can get a Yankee Frank in October!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two boys are playing hockey on a pond in Central Park when one is attacked by a rabid Rottweiler.

Thinking quickly, the other boy takes his stick, wedges it down the dog's collar and twists, breaking the dog's neck.

A reporter who was strolling by sees the incident, and rushes over to interview the boy. "Young Rangers Fan Saves Friend from Vicious Animal," he starts writing in his notebook.

"But I'm not a Rangers fan," the little hero replied.

"Sorry, since we are in New York, I just assumed you were," said the reporter. "Yankees Fan Rescues Friend From Horrific Attack" he continued writing in his notebook.

"I'm not a Yankees fan either," the boy said.

"I assumed everyone in New York was either for the Rangers or Yankees. What team do you root for?" the reporter asked.

"I'm a Red Sox fan," the child replied.

The reporter starts a new sheet in his notebook and writes, "Little Bastard from Boston kills Beloved Family Pet."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Albert Einstein arrives at a party and introduces himself to the first person he sees and asks, "What is your IQ?"

The man answers, "241."

"That is wonderful!" says Albert. "We will talk about the Grand Unification Theory and the mysteries of the universe. We will have much to discuss!"

Next, Albert introduces himself to a woman and asks, "What is your IQ?"

The lady answers, "144."

"That is great!", says Albert, "We can discuss politics and current affairs. We will have much to discuss!".

Albert then goes to another person and asks, "What is your IQ?"

The person answers, "51."

Albert ponders this for a moment, and then smiles and says,"GO RED SOX"!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There were two men, one was a Red Sox fan and the other was a Yankees fan.

These men were both madly in love with the same woman. So the woman challenged that whichever man does a better job at having sex with her would be her boyfriend.

Both men accepted the challenge.

That night, the woman had sex with the Red Sox fan and then the other night had sex with the Yankees fan. The next day the woman chose the Yankees fan to be her boyfriend.

Shocked and outraged, the Red Sox fan asked why she didn't choose him.

She replied by saying, "You, like your team not only come up short but always finish early!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you hear the Red Sox are moving to the Phillipines?
They are going to be called the Manilla Folders!

That's the only case you can make for Sheffield, is that he has hit "clutch" homeruns. Last year Ortiz hit as many, if not more "clutch" homers than Sheffield this year and didn't win MVP. Statistically, Ortiz or Manny should win MVP from an offensive standpoint IMO:

Sheffield: 465AB, 33HR, 98RBI, .408OBP (pretty good), .561SLG, .297BA
Manny: 455AB, 34HR, 104RBI, .407OBP, .618SLG, .316BA
Ortiz: 478AB, 33HR, 114RBI, .375OBP, .605SLG, .301BA (Career highs in ALL CATEGORIES)

Usually, the MVP goes to the "breakout year" of a player vs clutch ability. Ortiz has 16 more RBI in 13 more ABs than Sheffield, that is more than significant. You could also make a great case for Manny as well, since he has better numbers than Sheffield in 10 less ABs.

If New York can't win the division with all the players and the payroll they have spent already, it is their own fault (I guess they could learn a lesson watching the Lakers). I mean outside of the pitching, their entire team is all stars (or all star potential). Hell, don't they even pay each of their bench players $10,000,000 a year now?

Manny and Ortiz have each other to protect him. The same reason neither of the Cardinals trio will win MVP this year. Sheffield has been pitched around a lot this year and he has an MVP batting behind him (although a-rod has been bad with RISP this year). Plus Sheffield has been playing hurt the entire season - and he never complained. That alone would put him over the top. Not to take anything away from Manny or Ortiz but media likes stories like Sheffs and it's the writers who vote.

Heh, NY media have played that theme to the death. How Sheffield and Sierra, a well known club house trouble-makers have been model citizens and role models.
