Try putting on music during the act or if you really want a long term solution, buy a sound masking system. These types of system play noise (white or pink) at low levels to mask other sounds. I think there are some relatively cheap ones on amazon.

hogwash:

bookshelves + shit ton of books. damn fine sound absorbers right there.

Or just invite roomie and his g/f over for a 4-way. Then everyone will feel much more comfortable.

Tell them it's to prevent their heads from hitting the wall too hard while you're banging them.

OMG

Keep in mind...this is an apartment so any "fixes" have to be temporary and easily removed.

That's why I suggested "tacking up" some acoustic foam.

It'd be fugly, but it should solve the problem.

Also, acoustic foam will dampen mid and high frequencies, it will not "block" sounds. Soundproofing is stopping sound altogether, "foaming" up your room is called sound treatment.

To soundproof, you need to add MASS to the walls, which since you are in an apartment, will probably be impossible. Unless you buy drywall and only lean it up against the wall, and maybe put some dead space in there.

Random foam might make the problem worse as it will make the room quieter from internal sources, thus making sound from external sources seem louder. Also, some foams are very unsafe to just have tacked up on the wall due to either being a fire hazard or releasing unpleasant odors.

lan party with your own PC FTMFW

anyone realize that the costs to truly sound deaden a ghetto apartment exceed a few years rent esp on the loss of time and security/repainting/repairing walls

Step 1: Cut a hole in the wall.

Step 2: Put your junk in that hole.

Step 3: Make her OH GOD THEY'RE USING A STAPLER ON IT!!!!

Ok, maybe that's not a good idea.

Now him and I think it's funny and OK. The ladies however, they hear the sex noises then worry that their sex noises can be heard as well. This makes them skittish. I was thinking that there could be some kind of covering I could put over the walls to muffle the noise. I was thinking of putting up a layer of soundproof drywall, but realisitically that's too much work and since it's an appartment it would be complicated. Maybe something like a foam pad that could cover the whole wall? I know that if you take a whole bunch of square egg packaging (like the kind that restaurants get eggs in) and create an array on the wall it will reduce sound to almost 0. But I don't know where I'd get them all and having egg cartons on the wall would be weird.

Any ideas ATOT??

Why not just cover their faces with a pillow - not in a bad way - but so their screams of joy are muffled.

Or set up a schedule where one of you is out and about while the other is getting his groove on...
