Not bad, but keep in mind if you have a Fry's near you you can get a new cpu with a cheap ecs mobo for just a few bucks more.

Got a $52 2200+. Just missed out on one for $47.50, hopefully this one will overclock well, but I'm not expecting anything more than stock (esp considering that it's a refurb). Anyone have a free stick of DDR RAM ?

Bought a XP2500+ on Monday for $63 shipped. I have had good luck with NewEgg refurbs. Only 1 bad motherboard, which they replaced, in about 6 purchases.

Were any of these chips in stock when you guys ordered? Everything seems to be out of stock now.

Mine was in stock, but shows OOS right now. Hopefully this CC thing will get fixed before they void the order (3 days).

It's all a timing thing....and your luck as to when you look. Been looking for a cheap Athlon to upgrade my in-laws from a P3-500, since I have a KT333 MB just sitting idle. FINALLY, after a month, I was able to time it right and picked up a 1900+ for $37.50 shipped. About as cheap as it will get. I almost got something to upgrade my 2500+, but I asked myself exactly how much more performance I was going to get....the $37.50 price sounded better than ~120.

Good luck to everyone wanting one....keep trying....

Yea everything goes real fast as soon as they post up the daily refurbs since alot of system builders lurk there. I have seen stuff get loaded up around Noonish for a few items like vid cards, hard drives, and processors....but the bulk of the items get loaded up in the evening between 730 and 830sh EST...this of course is just a rough estimate of the time...just keep refreshing and buy everything quik that you want...in fact I usually buy each item and then check out then go back and buy next item since I believe having it in your cart does not secure the item until you check out.

probably OT but... how do you refurbish a processor?! They consist of a silicon chip, wires that lead to pins, and packaging... Can't repair a silicon chip, so I guess they just go over the wires? Maybe they repair scratches or chips on the processor packaging?

Anyway still a good deal... I would feel perfectly comfortable buying a refurbished chip, knowing they can't really 'refurbish' much.

nice prices on AMD 64's too, except the 3400+, but still, a great price on 3000+, now if only not OSS

Newegg's "refurbished" seems to be just anything that they don't feel they can sell as new any more. I'm a little more leery of ordering scratch-n-dent AMD Athlon CPUs because of how fragile they are, but I ordered four P4 Xeons from them one time and they appeared to be brand new; I ordered a 2.8GHz/800FSB P4 from them a couple of weeks ago, and that did appear to have been put installed and then later removed.

You take a risk because you have only seven days to return them if they're bad and there's no guarantee that they're not toast.

I've had the worst luck with refurb cases--at least half of the ones I've ordered from them have shown up with lots of important hardware missing and/or the case being physically broken.

I'm in the process of quieting down my current pc so that it may be put to greener pastures as a HTPC. Currently a 1ghz T-bird in an abit KT7A-Raid. If I popped in a 2200+ mobile from newegg, would that significantly drop cpu temps? I'd love to run my cpu fan at lower RPMs.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I don't think 2100/2200's work in that board. I have one and remember a big hubbub when they first came out about them not working. I don't know if they have fixed it via a Bios update or with the new Athlon steppings but I'd look into it before getting one.

I think there was a big thread in the Abit forum at forums.amdmb.com concerning this.
