Reformatting

OK, i fried my old mobo..it was a cheap Asrock, and replaced it with an equally cheap (but highly recommended) EPoX 8RD3AI.
Knowing you should always start with a fresh drive, I put in a brand new Seagate 80gig.
Ran Fdisk it, and when the dos partition comes up, it comes up as a 10 MEGABYTE drive.
10 MB? I can only boot from the win98 CD but cannot format the drive yet.

Did I miss something?

1. With that list of hardware, you really should be running XP.
2. What bootdisk are you using? Try using one from bootdisk.com and see if you get the same results.

See if the manufacturers of your HD's offer a free proggie for formating, creating partitions etc. I've got a Maxtor and find that Maxblast 3 makes this stuff really, really easy. If you've got a Maxtor laying around, just hook it up to one of your ide channels and format/partition any drive you have (Maxblast just requires that a maxtor be somewhere in the system to run).

If you don't have a Maxtor, check the other HD manufacturers' sites for similar free proggie to d/l.

Interesting, i do have a maxtor 40 gig i plan on using as a slave.
I'm still wondering why this 80 gig seagate could be showing up as a glorified floppy drive.

Thansk for the info, i actually found the info on an obscure knowledge base.
It seems Win98Fdisk doesn't recognize HDD's past 67.7 gb, but will display only as 10 mb.
You can either download the utility form Seagate or just type in the full size of the HDD.
