refurb EPOX EP-8KHA+ $55 another 29 available

Where do you think they are getting all these refurb boards? Why are there so many refurbed 8KHA+ boards?

Any thoughts on whether I should order the 8KHA+ or the 8K7A+ for $5 more? 8K7A+ has raid...but I haven't seen too many reviews comparing the two. Some say the 8K7A+ is slightly better, and some also say it's more troublesome.

Yeah, I picked up one of those shuttle boards. Seeing people sell them used for $90. Kt266a chipset, RAID, 5.1 sound, and great stability/overclockability make it a great deal, I think. We'll see what comes with it (like it if comes with the sound breakout slot)

Darrin - The common thought is that these boards were an earlier BIOS chip that had some significant problems - the boards were returned, new bios chip installed and sent out for refurb. The earlier thread was quite long. I have a retail version and was interested in understanding the refurb since it was substantially less expensive.

Newegg advertised the earlier rev (1.3?) but most people were getting the later rev's bios (N+, U+ I forget the details). There was a large variation in what individuals received. Some got practically new, in retail packaging with all the trimmings - cables, software, USB ports, etc while others did get an OEM white box bare board type package. Newegg was advertising conservatively - the min setup was the OEM Barebone.

It should at least say 8KHA+. The 8KHA is a different board. Mine came as a couple of others I have gotten (rev. 2.0 with U= bios chip). It had the disc, IDE cables, manual, and an extra USB back panel to connect to one of the USB headers. I haven't even pulled it out of the static bag yet, but it looks like new. I did receive one earlier that I purhcased when they got only 4 or 5 back in stock. It was abused with bent USB pins and nothing but the manual included with it. It came in a freaky clear, slide-out box. It wouldn't boot up from the WIN XP CD while a HD was attached, even if the HD was already formatted with an OS installed on it.

Bottom line, most of these should be factory refurbs like earlier batches. I probably won't buy any more refurb 8KHA+ boards unless these have plenty in stock. It gets kinda pricey paying for shipping bad products back.

Anyone have any problems using Ahead's InfoTool with this board? I've got a 8KHA+ and a XP 1800+ along with a Maxtor ATA133 PCI card. A LiteOn 24x10x40 CDRW is set as 2nd MA on the ATA133.

Everytime I try to use InfoTool, it reboots the system. Anyone run into this problem?

It only says EP-8HKA and REV1.3, the label on the bottom of the 6th PCI slot also says 8KHA. I have an EP-8KHA+ too, and apparently there's no difference in the layout of the two boards, so those are the only visible differences between the two(unless I pry off the chipset fan I guess). Crappy

You'd better check to make sure they didn't send you an 8KHA by accident.

I just got mine as well, it's not new because there's a little dust on the chipset fan, but it looks brand new.

Whoever used it before me didn't touch anything else in the box because it was all there with 2x USB breakout cards. This is the third refurb I've bought from newegg, first an 8k7a which was brand new not even opened box, next was an ATI radeon also never/barely used, and now this board. I don't know if they always send me perfect stuff because I am really close and they don't want any disgruntled visitor's or what but I'll always try and get my stuff refurbed from newegg instead f paying full price.

Has anyone had problems with the floppy controller on their board? I received mine for a computer at work yesterday, but it will not read any floppy drive I stick in it. I can install WinXP from the CD-ROM just fine, but it still won't read the floppy. I have tried several floppy drives and cables. I know I am not hooking the cable up backwords. Every time I try to boot to floppy, it gives an error like "disk I/O error" or something. It's like it is trying to read the disk, but then it fails. Any suggestions? I hate to have to send this thing back because everything else was fine and it looked new (except I could tell the bios chip had been replaced).

BE WARNED. I bought one and it had some kind of GEL crap in the socket near the thermo dealio that sits under the cpu, also some kind of yellow glue stuff came is in a pin hole on the actual socket itself and it looks like someone drew with a pencil all over the stinking socket!!! I'm so disappointed at newegg it's not even FUNNY!
