Grade "A" and "B" Refurbished / Used Hitachi SuperScan 803 21 inch Color Monitors

Just wanted to clear up some confusion on this deal:
AllThingsTech.Com and ComputerCasesAndCables.com are sister web sites from the same company. Recently the two sites were merged together. That is why all of the AllThingsTech links now bring you to the ComputerCasesAndCables web site. The main difference between the two sites is that AllThingsTech.Com had a flat rate $7.99 shipping rate, whereas ComputerCasesAndCables uses a calculated shipping rate similar to what most online websites use.

Since the monitors no longer have flat rate shipping all of the prices have been lowered to accommodate the higher shipping rate. So the total price to get a monitor to your door has not increased at all, in fact if you live in the midwest the price is actually lower now.

for example:
The 803 A was $169 plus $7.99 for a total of $178 shipped before,
now the same monitor is $149 plus shipping of $30 (or less) for a maximum price of $179
All of the monitors on the web site have been lowered in a similar fashion.

more 811's and other brands of monitors may pop up from time to time:
This link is for all of the refurbished products at Computer Cases And Cables

Other than how the shipping is calculated nothing else with this deal has changed, the monitors are still coming out of the same warehouse and all the same employees are still handling the packaging and customer service.

(again, I would like to thank the mods for their understanding on this issue! I believe it really has turned into a legit "Hot Deal" for many, many Anandtechers)

OK, Homer. I'll bite. The 21-inch Hitachis are refurbs...where did you get them from? What warranty do you offer on them?

How "refurb is refurb?" I.E. were these monitors that required a bit of soldering to work correctly, or is the plastic case all cracked and busted and pitted and stained?

Please describe "Grade A" as shown here

For local residents, can they pickup the item and choose the monitor?

direct link to the 21" monitors

MichaelD, we do not refurb these monitors ourselves, we buy them from a reseller so I cannot speak directly to the exact work being done, however as I understand it most of these monitors are lease returns and buybacks from large corporations (with the resent price drops in LCD monitors many companies are dumping CRT's left and right)

the 21" only recently became available to us, we have sold approx 20 so far (including 1 to me! ) all of them have been great. We have been buying refurbished monitors in the 15" and 17" sizes from this source for about a year, we have had only 1 monitor that we were not happy with in all that time (it awas a bit fuzzy) Otherwise we have many happy customers and everyone in our office uses refurb monitors from this source everyday.

we offer a 30 day warranty, plus as the website says we try them to ensure that everything looks good here before we ship them out.

I bought 2 of the Hitachi superscan 802 from team excess a couple of years ago before I worked for this company (I paid a lot more, I wish I would have waited) but everything I have seen shipped out in the 21" size has been better looking than either of my team excess monitors

yeah, it'll get locked. But they aren't flatscreen!! Boooooo. You'll get rid of them at that price....I knew it was too good to be true. FYI, almost nobody buys CRTs these days unless they are flatscreens...which is probably why you got them so cheap.

Oh well. Good luck anywya.

SKORPI0, we would be glad to have local residents stop buy and pick out a monitor, we do have a brick and mortar store front. however we are located about 2 1/2 hours outside of the twin cities so it might be a drive depending on where you are coming from.

as far as "grade A" these monitors look pretty good. definately no problems with the screens themselves like dead pixles or big scratches. The cases look good too, many of them could pass for brand new, a few have some some minor smudges at worst. no major cracks are serious discolorization or anything like that.

These are very good monitors for CAD or any 3D graphics applications as they support 1200 x 1600 resolution at better than 85 Hz. These are far better than most flat screens and all LCDs at this resolution. You do need a high end graphics card to support this, the card will end up costing at least 3X the cost of the monitor at this price. We use these monitors at work and have found them to be very robust, haven't seen one go bad yet.

I've been using a Mitsubishi Diamondtron 21" monitor (found deal on here) for about 2-3 years.

it has a slight curvature.

my point of this post....having a slight curvature isn't bad...and at this price they seem pretty good.

you can still give me a CRT over an LCD any day of the week.

I will definately mention up front that I work for this company, but I only post this deal because I think it actually qualifies as a legit hot deal (it is better than the Dell deals of late and even better than the Team Excess refurb deals of the past)
(snip)
I bought 2 of the Hitachi superscan 802 from team excess a couple of years ago before I worked for this company (I paid a lot more, I wish I would have waited) but everything I have seen shipped out in the 21" size has been better looking than either of my team excess monitors

When I saw this, I thought no way, but then looked at my invoice from TeamExcess dated May 7, 2002 and :

Order Detail:
Manufacturer Number: SuperScan Elite 811
Description: Hitachi SuperScan Elite 811 21" SVGA Monitor
Part Number: V-HT-CM811U
Qty: 1
Price: $169.00
Extended: $169.00

(Free Shipping).

So, yes, your delivered price is better.
But, as most here know, there is more than price at stake.
Team Excess Lifetime Rating: 9.62
No rating for you yet.
Shipping can be terrible with monitors, and if there is a problem, and you must
pay to ship it back, your savings can be eaten up pretty quickly.

If this company is any good, then it would not need reps here selling.
Previous customers will inform best.

Plus any company that tries to put themselves above another better be able to back it up.
To say you are better than 9.62 lifetime Teamexcess is a joke, right? Stick with beating Tiger direct for now.

Hopefully this company will eventually be close to as good as Teamexcess was.
We need some to bite on this. Not a chance here, but some of you must like taking chances!!

That refresh rate is at the max resolution, so 1600x1200 @75hz.
I run mine at either 1280x1024 @ 85hz, or 1024x768 @ 100hz, and neither is maxed out.
It is an awsome monitor, and came in same as new condition from Teamexcess.

I have one of these monitors (Also purchased in MN but not from this guy) and I love it. It is as close to flat as you can get, 20" viewable, shortneck design takes up about as much space as a 19".

$165 shipped is a steal for these monitors. I paid $200 for mine picked up.

As for "Boooo it's not a flat screen... Somthing about only buying LCDs or Flat CRTs" (Whatever Richard said). C'mon, you're not going to be finding a flat 21" monitor even used for less than $300 and you are more than likely not going to find a 21" LCD for less than $600 so unless you have the money to shell out, this is a hell of a deal.

RobsTV, I am glad you pointed this out. I have a question for you. Is there some standard to how high you can run an unsupported refresh rate (without damage) beyond the recommended refresh rate?

SKORPIO: Thanks for the review
$970 yikes- another example of things we can be grateful for

RobsTV: Thanks for the details
Is there some kind of regulation re that because I've notice that before
ie they use the max resolution for the refresh rate
It seems, if you're going to put down just one figure in the specs
why not put something like somemany HZ @ say something like 1280X1024?

i bought a refurb hitachi superscan 802 from team excess about 2 years ago for $239.. pretty good monitor..

with the $5 shipping, i'd definately say this deal is hot.. though the condition of the monitor is questionable...
i actually looked my hitachi cm802 monitor up in a old 1998.. it costed $1799, the highest end monitor, well almost, just behind the

hitachi's shadowmask are pretty high quality.. and is a good alternative to flat screens.. as their colors are more accurate.. i'd say the geometry of my screen is pretty much perfect.. i can take a ruler.. and the lines are prefectly straight..

i don't think it's his company though.. he only works there... i personally find nothing wrong with it...

so you're saying a sales rep from best buy can't post a hot deal from best buy if he finds one?
