Well, this will be my first post here @ Anandtech.com...

I found this thread the other day by happenstance, and read all 8 million posts, dating back all the way to February or March or whenever...I use my computer a lot for watching movies in bed, and I'd been wanting to upgrade to a larger screen for some time, but they are so gawd-awful expensive usually...

Anyway, I read about the clean monitors, and about the great customer service over there at allthingstech.com...Then I went onto their site and found out the monitors were out of stock..bummer...This was about last Wednesday (9th)...

So, I called, they said hopefully they'd have some in 2 weeks or so, but if I placed my order right now, I'd be first on the list for one when they came in.

So I did, Thursday I ordered one. Monday I called and they said that it had come in and would ship that day (still said out of stock on the site). I check airborne express, and it says delivery date will be the 17th (today!)

Well, wouldn't you know it was sitting on my porch when i got home YESTERDAY.

Not a yellow spot on the case, not a crack, nor a rubbed off button on the screen...not a burnt spot on the screen...even had brand new unwrapped vga cable and power wire.

Needless to say, I'm impressed.

As to the size...Well, I traded up from a CTX PL9 19 inch to this...The casing is about the same size..The 19 inch weighed 41 lbs, the 21 inch weighs 71...But the screen...ahhhhhh Only 2 inches wider and 1 inch taller, but BOY, I tell ya...I used to have to squint from my bed (10 feet maybe) to watch wide-screen movies, now...no worries...like watching a really sharp tv...

Anyway, that's my scoop!

I hope the following question is OK to ask in this forum...

Although I really want one of these monitors, I keep missing when they are in stock. I finally have the extra $$ to buy one and I found a computer store (independent) down the road that has refurb 21" monitors for $150 - plus he will give me a $20 credit if I give him my 17" (I might sell it on ebay, though, judging by what they are going for there). I have not stopped by yet to see the condition or brands. Does anyone know of any other excellent 21" monitor brands?

No they aren't flat screens, but many ppl who have bought the monitor say it doesn't affect them too much. Basically , even though it's not flat , it's close to it.

To anyone who has one of these....how's the size? I almost think 21" is too big... You can pick up a Samsung 19" l 955DF for about the same price. New retail box. Anyone think these 21"'s are overkill? Then again, I don't want to get a 19" and be like " if only it were a smidge bigger".

I don't have one of these, but i do have a 21" trinitron. I'd say DEFINATELY get it. I've never had a 19, but i had a 17 and i'd never go back to anything less than a 21"er. I'd like to get something bigger than 21" actually, but they are a LOT more expensive. I barely use my tv anymore, I just watch all of my movies on my monitor.

It's insanely big at first, but you get used to it and love it.

Can't do 1600x1200 on an 18" or 19" lcd, that cans the lcd option for me, 21" lcd's are way too expensive now.

I just went with a 21"A of these.

My concerns tho are reinforcing my desktop, as its already bowing with my 17" and 19" (to be replaced by 21"), as well as the watts its going to draw.

I just got my 21" grade A monitor - I'm not happy with it.

Physically its in awesome shape. Only imperfection is that I can screw just one side of my video cable in because one of the little screw receptors is missing, NO biggy...

The colors look nice but the text is NOT SHARP at all. Everything looks pixelated or fuzzy with rough edges, making things harder to read. I'm replacing my gateway 900vx 19" running at 1600x1200, to this, running also at 1600x1200.

I'd expect to see a much more solid crisp font display etc.

/edit, I emailed them the issue, we'll see how it goes.

OK, I got the grade A monitor today, and at first I was so amazed with the picture quality even though it was manufatured in 1999.
Then I noticed pebble like black dots (1mm square), and I thought they were because of a scratch or somehitng. But when I look at them carefully, they were inside the tube (they are like dead pixels in TFT monitor...)
I will see what Allthings. com will respond...

I upgraded to a 19, and it's definitely a tremendous improvement over 17's, and definitely over 15's. I have to get used to not automatically maximising everything

21's are even better. If you like having a lot of windows open at the same (im window, a chat or two, a media player, email, etc) like i normally do, they're wonderful. And of course, for image editing / graphic design / video games, the 21inch displays we have in the college labs can't be beat...

If i only had a little more cash, i'd grab this. Not sure if this would be considered an upgrade from my 19inch viewsonic, though...what do you guys think? Quality going to be any worse?

-D.
