Hitachi makes some of the nicest TVs Ive seen so I cant say their monitors would be that bad. I would have been all over this but I just picked up a 2060u.

The only thing that worries me is that they are from 1998......refurbed is a toss up.

Would you chose this Hitachi 21" monitor for $165

or

The Dell M992 19" monitor (flat screen) for $199 shipped

What's the better deal on the better monitor?

I am willing to bite on one of these Homer. My concerns are dead pixels, screen scratches, dull color and your employers customer service after the sale.

You personally pick me out a nice one and I will be the guinea pig and step up to the pump.

I've been looking for info on these monitors... if they're decent or not. Cause I _MIGHT_ be able to squeeze one into my computer hutch here! I'm still so proud of my 19" Proview I picked up from the infamous Neo OfficeMax monitor thread of a year ago (?), but 21" should be even better!
So far, here's information I've found on these monitors:

http://www.tweakers.net/nieuws/9227
Model 802u for not much more with a 90 day warranty.
Specs for Hitachi Monitors

That's all I can stand to look for now. So... any more personal experience with this thing? How's it work at 1600x1200? That might be fun!

must...control...impulses!

Id go with the Dell cause its most prolly a trinitron tube and its a flat screen. Plus you are 100% gauranteed to get it in the shape you are expecting.

The Hitachis on this site say MOST are Grade A. Which means you may get one with screen burn or scratches on the glass. Too much of a chance for me to take unless I was talking to the guy on the phone, while he was looking for one that met my needs.

That Dell is not a trinitron tube.

I own a Hatachi monitor, and even though they are not flatscreen, they work WONDERFULLY.
My model is a little older (and heavier) but I can tell you, I would pay $150 for it easy.

I jumped on this to replace my aging Proview, damn thing makes my eyes watery after extended viewing I'm hopeful that this Hitachi is indeed Grade "A" refurb, the price was too good to resist.

Hmm, one of these might be a good replacement for my 17" KDS that is currently making weird sounds.

I wonder if they still have any good ones left. Homer you still monitoring the thread? Let me know.

Local microcenter in my VA area had the same exact refurb Hitachi 21inch monitors for $99 in box with 90 day warrenty..
It's been a while since I went there.. but you can even return it if you don't like it.. and no restocking fee..
There were about 6 of them in store..
But I didn't buy it... because it is really heavy... and only 90 day warrenty..

Update for anyone wondering why their order status is still listed as "pending".

According to Julie at Allthingstech (507-929-3650) the problem is that "The truck with the monitors on it broke down". The truck and monitors are due in today and should be shipped out today or tomarrow at the latest.

Now this leads me to ponder a few questions. First off, why would they list these monitors as "in stock" when in fact they were not in stock. Secondly, I am curious how the original poster was sure that "as far as "grade A" these monitors look pretty good", when he had never seen the monitors. I guess he was referring to the ones they had in previously?

I am still hopeful things work out ok, but this is starting to sound fishy.

lots of shops list things as in stock when they aren't really...they just depend on their supplier being able to get the item order to them in the next day or two to ship out to the customer.

not the most honest way to do it but its a lot easier on the etailer and they don't have to worry about buying a bunch of stock and then maybe not selling them.

Eh. I could tell you some fish stories if you like. This doesn't sound like one yet. A lot of places warehouse stuff at other locations than the main business. Especially space consuming items.

Its only been one business day since we ordered. Would be nice if Homer would pop in though.
