Just called..mine has "been picked up" although I checked and haven't been charged yet. I've got a tracking number but airborne express doesn't show anything about it yet. grr..hopefully it's on its way now.

I see TAL0N has received his, has anyone else ?????
If so , was it as good as the monitor he described ???
I hate to get in on this , since, I really can't afford it, ( got laid off last week ),
But a 21" would be a LOT easier on the eyes than my 17".

Emailed them and asked about this price difference,
was told by Scott

"If you notice the shipping is different the allthingstech.com has $4.99 shipping because we drop ship all of our products from 1 distributer who we have negotiated that with other than the refurb monitors which we ship ourselves. The computercasesandcables site calculates shipping from the east coast. This is where most of our products are drop shipped for that site. I dont care which site you get it from the prices come out to be close to the same, if you are on the east coast it might be a little cheaper to do it from the computercasesandcables site, if you are the west coast it is much cheaper to do it from allthingstech.com and if you are somewhere's in the middle it probably will be the same."

So I guess I am fine going thru allthingstech.com, still a good price and hope to get one soon here once that last batch of 50 or so comes in, i only need one! (but would like 2 or 3 hehe)

I noticed that http://www.computercasesandcables.com was a sister site last week when I was looking at cables, but didn't notice these monitors at the time, good eye FTLOSM!

I'm a bit surprised nobody else has posted that they've received a monitor yet since this thread was a couple days old when I ordered on Mar 1st, and IIRC the website showed only 20 remaining "in stock".

One other thing about this monitor I should mention, when you first power it on, you might want to be sitting down. I had apparently hit the power button when unpacking/moving it and when I first plugged it in, it instantly powered on with such a horrid noise I jumped about 2 feet! Apparently it auto-degausses when turned on and the noise it makes is very LOUD.

What is going on with this deal?

http://www.allthingstech.com/comp/refurb21.html
NOTE: We were formerly selling these as Grade "A" but those have sold out, and our remaining stock will be "B" Grade. These "B" Grades are still in working order, and go through our same testing and cleaning process, but they will have yellowed cases, so we have lowered the price.

Does that mean that I will be receiving a 'Grade B' instead of the 'Grade A' that I ordered 10 days ago? How long does it take them to actually ship it? Who do they use you ship, all the provided me with was a tracking number.

10 days is a long time to wait just to get jerked around in the end.

Thanks,
Faithful anandtech lurker

I ordered from the "cables" version of the website on the 13th. I hope they don't try to fob grade "b" off on me.

My order was shipped Airborne Express (but arrived on a UPS truck), it showed up here the day that it actually shipped.

I think it's safe to assume you'll still be receiving a 'Grade A' monitor.

I checked. They are giving me a grade 'b'". I clicked under "order partially processsed " and got a page where it described my order as a grade "b" eventhough the e-mail confirmation was non-specific, and the website said mostly grade "A" at the time of the order. Also, peversely their price went up 5$ on the website, although they didn't alter the price for my order. Should I try & cancel this? My order stands at a grade"b" refurb monitor + 2KVM cables I need for $170 shipped.

My order suddenly shows as a Grade B too, altho the price didn't go down still shows 159

refurb21 GRADE B Refurbished / Used Hitachi SuperScan 811 21 inch Color Monitor
SIZE-->e COLOR-->1 $159.99

I'd rather stick with the Grade A for $159 (the order I placed said A)
heck on the website its now showing I'm getting a Grade B but still
at the price of an A.

Just my opinion but $5 off for a downgrade of A condition to "yellowed case" isn't much
of a reduction, and in my case it now says B and is STILL the old $159 price, now I am
not so sure if I should hold out or cancel on this...

I was asked how to actuate the secondary adjustments on the SuperScan 811, since the information doesn't seem to be available anywhere, I'll post it here:

To get to the secondary functions press and hold the rightmost button in the main group of 6, then momentarily press one of the other 5 buttons to select the function you want (R-G-B guns, V Moire or H Moire). Then you can use the usual + and - buttons to make the necessary adjustments.

And if anybody needs it, you can download Hitachi's driver here link

Got mine today, Im surprised it made it here in such good shape with the packageing job (note: foam peanuts dont usually cut it as sufficiant when shipping a 21 monitor single boxed) however it showed up in perfect shape. Definately a grade A with a great picture. I think I like my Nokia 445xi a tad better but hey I payed 400$ plus for that and for 159$ shipped this ended up being a awesome deal. Also this monitor takes up way less space on my desktop, and I mean way less than my Nokia.

Now to play with these funky controls.

Well, as usual I got the fuzzy end of the sucker. My order had been changed to a gradeB as well.

The monitor itself looks like new. Except for the scratches in the tube. About 1/3 of the way down from the top right in the middle of the tube are several 1 1/4" long scratches. One of them is deep enough to give the "diamondvision" effect with a bright background such as the desktop. Pretty much ruins it right there.

At any resolution above 1024x768, the taskbar/clock/quicklaunch area and any text in the middle of the screen is so blurry it is damn near unreadable. Any light background is very impure as to color and has some light scrolling lines. I will give it some time to straighten out but its pretty well fubar.

The only redeeming factor is gaming. The colors are fantastic. RTCW is just beautiful. But, at this point, I think its pretty much a boat anchor.

You pays your money and takes your chances.

Hi guys,

so let me just clear up this "Grade B" thing right now...
if you look at what it says on the website:
"We expect to fill our remaining backorders (for Grade "A") by Friday March 21st, after which we will receive and ship the "B" Grades. "

what this means is any new orders now will be for "Grade B" monitors (and we lowered the price a little for the yellowed case)

However ANYONE THAT ORDERED WHEN IT SAID "GRADE A" IS GETTING "GRADE A"
we have more monitors in "grade A" coming from our supplier to cover the existing orders.
no one was "switched to Grade B" and I am sorry if anything from our website would lead you to believe that.

a couple of other notes, first, Airborne Express has been very slow in updating tracking numbers. This is partially because they don't directly pick these monitors up from us, they send a semi truck that is common carrier. (Our normal airborne driver showed up and looked at our giant tower of monitors and then at his mini-van and realized that wasn't gonna work, fortunately we had already called his boss and the semi was on its way) But they don't actually scan the orders in until at least a day after they actually pick them up.

also, from what I understand we have had a flood of POSITIVE email from people that are blown away by the great quality of the monitors they have received. (if any of you guys are reading this, POST! For some reason only the people with problems seem to be speaking out)

Scott Moat, the president of allthingstech.com, sent me a copy of an email that most of you should be recieving explaining this info in more detail, so check your inbox.

I hope this will clear things up a little!

Mine is in pretty good shape..the screen is speckled/pitted (like tiny specks of sand) but as of yet I'm not overly annoyed by it. The buttons are very hard to manage on mine (gotta use a screwdriver to hold down the one button to get into secondary mode). And the weirdest thing is I got some European power cable with the monitor. Did anyone else?

BUT, all those negative things aside, I'm pretty much a happy customer because I got a 21" monitor for under 200 bucks that still has a pretty good picture (and .22 pitch).

Homer,

Refurbished or Used - mostly Grade A - manufactured 1998 or newer
All used monitors have a 30-day warranty, and all have been tested and are in working condition before leaving the warehouse. Brand Hitachi

This is the description shown on the page when I ordered. I did not receive an "A". I received a "D" as I described aboveso your statement is not 100% correct. Right after I ordered I sent an e-mail to your customer service addy from the web page. I indicated that "mostly Grade A" was less than descriptive but I had ordered anyway. I asked that if Grade "A" monitors were not available I would like to be contacted so I could cancel my order. I explained that I understood I was buying a used monitor, but, scratches in the glass and color problems were unacceptable at any price.

I received an e-mail back from Marty Brandl indicating that you sell nothing that is less than in excellent shape and the only problems had been some slight yellowing in the cases.

Then I received the mail from Scott Moat apologizing for the delay in shipping. No mention of grade "B" units soley being available to fill the orders. As they had nearly 2 weeks to let me know that grade "B"'s solely were available, I would have expected to have been contacted as I had requested so I could cancel. Scott's mail to us could also have indicated that only "B"s were going to be available so those who didn't want them could cancel.

In short, I did everything I could do to prevent the situation I am in now from occuring, short of not ordering from you at all. I have sent a mature e-mail in reply to Marty explaining my situation and requesting we work out a suitable remedy. We will see how it goes and I hope for the best. All I want is a nice "A" unit with no scratches and acceptable display like I had originally ordered.

Since this company has been compared to TeamExcess by Homer, do not worry about grade "B".
Grade "B" Hitachi SuperScan 811's are what TeamExcess sold their monitors as when they
clearanced them for around $150. They were not yellow, and did not have any scratches anywhere.
and arrived in same as new condition. Packing was always that injection foam form fit stuff.

If the monitor's glass tube has scratches, they screwed up, so give them a call, and have them pay
for return shipping of the Grade "D" monitor. Good companies will rush you a replacement right out.

As Homer has stated, his monitors are better then the Grade "B" monitors TeamExcess sold,
so you should all be in great shape.
