On Klipsch's site they are advertising that their own refurbs are going to be half off retail price starting soon.

Be warned that some people have had HORRIBLE results! But on the other hand I got these back in august (the deals been going on a LONG TIME) and mine have been perfect, Mine were just a returned product it came with everything no blemishes no tampering, I assume in the orginal sealed plastic. No issues what so ever. If your an audiophile get the monster cables, they are easy to plug in plus they are really long. Kinda pricy add on but worth it in my opinion. My total was ~200 shipped with cables. Well worth these bad boys of sound!

if i am an audiophile i dont buy cheap computer speakers...i get dedicated reciever...etc

By half retail, do they mean 1/2 of their suggested retail price? Or do they mean 1/2 of the price you can typically purchase them for? (which is anywhere from 175 to 275 or more)

That's the new thing that's considered "cool." Elitist home theater geeks feel bad that they spent over a grand on their home theater system so they mock people getting high end PC systems. Never mind the fact that there are plenty of real reviews of these systems in professional listening environments where they measure frequency response and other characteristics and find them to perform comparably to mid range home theater systems. Most high end pc speakers are cheaper than the low end sets you'll get at best buy, and sound way better in objective tests. I do agree that cables shouldn't be nearly as high a percentage of cost in your system probably. You might be able to tell a small difference, and you will have the cables if you decide to upgrade to a more expensive home theater system later...it's just one of those things it seems hard to justify. Kind of like buying a $40 Celeron, then getting an $80 Peltier cooler to overclock it to $60 Celeron speeds.

where, show me a real review by real audio reviewers comparing them to mid range HT systems. and i do hope when you say mid-range you don't mean mid-range at best buy or good guys. Tweeters is the only DECENT chain store with good components.

again, the key word here is best buy. going to best buy for speakers is like going to Target or Walmart for their best PC speakers. unfair comparison.

and speakers that i'm talking about are not expensive. there are unknown brands that don't cost much more than a nice set of Klipsch 5.1's and sound just as good if not better. i have serious doubts about your reviews pitting Kilpsch against other decent speakers and the klipsch actually winning objective sound tests. i'm not ragging on the Klipsches, I have a set of promedia 4.1's myself, but don't compare them to quality budget HT speakers, cuz they can't compete.

Paradigm, PSB, Athena 5.1's, NHT, Energy, are some names that you won't find at Best Buy, but are relatively cheap and very good sounding.

I found that to be funny as hell.....I mean, at least they don't take themselves so seriously. That wouldn't be the way I'd advertise them, but funny nonetheless...

Maybe its just half the original MSRP of $300. If so, it's bull. The factory refurb price has been $150 forever.

fyi, shipping on these (for me anyways) is ~$20... and a quick check of pricewatch shows that MicroPro has these for $185 (shipping included) in new condition (not refurbed).

Is that a contradiction? (see highlighted text). Anyway, I searched some reviews and found that the klipsch name alone isn't enough... they have some pretty crappy speakers on the market. However, I couldn't find a good review that put the computer speakers alongside HT speakers. However, thanks a lot. Now I have to go through the enormous confusion online of reading reviews and deciding which speakers are best. The $1000 system that CNet ranked very highly (but 20 percent of users said was no good) or the $300 that Cnet ranked lower, but 96% of user comments were good (and the 4% all sounded like idiots).... And, lacking a store within a few hours that has systems I can listen to... Plus, it's dependent on what receiver you have, and the room its in.... Never mind.. I'll just stick with the z560's.
