mobo is a very important part of the system. I personally would never go for a refurbished one.

I bought two, first one is OK - the second one is DOA, lost one capasitor.
but the RMA is easy and no charge since it's a DOA
if it's really cheap compare to the new one then i'll take
the refurb, i think it's gonna be OK, also you said that it will be
the second setup, so why spend extra for that.

Refurb can be a good way to go. I'd recommend that you just make sure you have enough other parts on hand to at least try to boot it and maybe format a HDD to see what it does, as soon as you get it. That's all I did and everything was fine. You only have a 30 day window to RMA so the quick boot test is a must, even though you might not be wanting to actually build the system until later. That's what I did with my wifes board and it has turned out fine. Saved big $$'s too.

However, keep in mind that Newegg's refurbed mobos are not refurbished in any way, they are just boards that were returned by a previous owner and they can't sell them as new. Some were returned because someone changed their mind, fine. Some were returned because an inexperienced person couldn't get it to work, and that would be fine as well. Some were returned because of a flakey problem that Neweggs cursory examination may not have identified (2nd IDE port not working, 3rd DIMM slot not working, bad USB port, and so forth). Many people here have had no problems with refurbs from Newegg. Many have.

You may get a good deal, but it may also be a crap shoot. If you choose to go that route, just be sure you test EVERYTHING as soon as possible - all IDE headers, all I/O ports, all DIMM slots, all fan headers.

Bought a refurbished GA-7DXR v1.1 2 weeks ago for $59 shipped and it works perfectly. Was able to make another system w/ spare parts from "hot deals". Paid for the same board v1.0 Sept 2001, $165. Looks like I'll have to visit newegg's refurbished section everyday.

Right, be sure to test everything just to make sure or else RMA within 30m days.

I bought an AK31A for $49 with free shipping. It works great. However, I purchased a "referb" Enermax 350 power supply and it died in 13 hours of running. It cost me $6 to send it back and then they just canceled my order and refunded my money. So now I'm out my $6. oh well. I'll probably buy new after this.

<< So now I'm out my $6 >>

Yes, but how much did you save on the AK31A? How much did you stand to gain/save on the Enermax? Yes, it's a bit of a gamble sometimes but the payoff can be terrific. As long as you are responsible and test the products you buy, you can save quite a bit with this method. Six bucks is not a bad price when compared to what you are saving.

Edit: At the current price of the AK31A-$72+8 shipping, you saved at least $31 on the MB. Not too bad, even factoring in the $6 shipping you paid for the PS.

I just returned my second SOYO dragon to them. Beware.. (in my opinion). I have a sneaky feeling they sometimes push "b" inventory.

I am switching back to MSI products (motherboards).

On both of my SOYO boards the NIC (built in) went out within 2 months. No problem on the second board, I just installed an add-on card... right? Wrong. It later decided it would never power up again.
Soyo is SUCK. And I hope Newegg is not pushing junk. Sure makes me wonder. Same problems.... same board. Just looking forward to getting my new MSI K7N420 PRO, I have always had good luck with MSI.

Oh these were brand new boards.

I think that some of those motherboards are refurbed by motherboards manufactures like a new bios chip or something else and that would explain why they have 50 or 100 available (update quanity to 99 and update).

I think if you send in your receipt for return shipping they will reimburse you.

Just like all the other posters said-Test it right away and use it alot for 25 days so you can rma it within 30 days if you have to--that 30 days is also from when you receive it not when they send it.

also I think some motherboard manufactures will still honor the warranty on the refurb boards.

From Newegg:
Thank you for requesting RMA. Your RMA number is ######
This RMA number is only good for 14 days from today. It will expire on 4/10/2002.
However, RMA number do not extend any warranty or refund period.
For example, your 30 day refund period will end on the 30th day from original invoice day, regardless of RMA issue / expiration day.

If you order on a Friday, board should arrive by Tuesday, so you lose 3 days. Same with sending board back.
So you actually end up with a little over a 3 week warranty, as it starts from your order date, not your receive date.

BTW, my board crapped out on day 28, so I had to next day air board to remain within warranty period.
Out of stock on replacement means they had to refund money, but still out return shipping.

It is a high risk deal, but I wonder if you could still return board to manufacturer for warranty service after 30 days?
Newegg only handles warranty for 30 days on new boards as well, and after that you must deal direct with manufacturer.

My first refurb from Newegg was by accident.
Was going to get a refurb IWill KT133A, but decided it wasn't worth the risk, so ordered and paid for a new board.
The board I received had someones notes written on the back of the manual. So even though I paid for new, I got used.
Wouldn't overclock well, so returned it and bought "new" Epox KT133A (8kta3pro). Wise move.

Next, since I read about the new Epox KT266A (8kha+) as the best board, and since original boards had Bios issues that
required board be returned for replacement, figured it was a safe bet to assume the ton's of 8kha+ boards Newegg had
in refurb were those updated boards. Bought the refurbished 8kha+, and that is the now the dead item shown above with
the RMA from Newegg.

I purchased 2 refurbished??? MB's. One was an ASUS A7V133, and it wouldn't ever power up the fans.
I didn't test it within the 30 day period, so I had to call ASUS, get an RMA, I sent it back, 10 days ago, and I'm still waiting for another MB.

Next, I order the Epox 8KHA+, as soon as I get it, I hook only the necessary items, and I couldn't even get into the bios. I returned that one, and Newegg didn't have a replacement, so they issued a credit to my Visa.

I lost a lot of time with those 2 MB's, more than likely, I won't try again.

Enjoy your day,
Raymond

I bought 2 Iwill KK266-R's last summer from NewEgg for ~$80 each. They both worked perfectly AFTER I flashed the latest BIOS. The BIOS they came with made them repeatedly reboot with anything hooked up to the USB ports. So, their "Refurb" didn't even include a new BIOS flash! They both came in retail packaging with all the parts, but the IDE cables were obviously used and refolded.

I'm still using them both today with no problem in any way. The one I'm using to post this is running a 1Ghz T-Bird @ 1.4Ghz (a 40% OC ). Not to shabby for a refurb....

I bought 4 refurbished motherboards from them. Three were OK, one was screwed up. Newegg's usual excellent customer service took care of it with no problems.
