Onkyo is the best, thats an AMAZING deal, If I wasnt trying to buy stuff for my car audio I would be ALL OVER THIS!

paired with fluance speakers and a good homemade sub w. a plate amp and a tempest, it woudl equal a 3k system on the market.

thats a pretty sweet deal. just make sure you guys figure out what you will need to do if you don't get a working unit or if the unit is damaged. The kenwood deal went sour for people like myself who were sent bad units and had to take a hit on restocking fees. Might want to even make sure that eCost is an authorized dealer and that onkyo would honor any repair request.

what's the difference between getting this receiver (or the 601) and one of Onkyo's "package" deals like the ht-s667?

For those who don't want to mess with refurb, ABTElectronics has the silver version (TXSR501S) for $279 shipped.

no you dont but with onkyo DTS:NEO 6.1 it simulates 6.1 using all your 5.1 movies and trust me it sounds amazing

my brother has an onkyo 6.1 receiver just a few models above this and I cant tell you how amazing the 5.1 movies sound with his 6.1 (2 rear surrounds plus single rear speaker setup =6.1)

i bought the kenwoood vr-6050 (earlier thread) but it was damaged in shipping and had to go back.

i've been talking with one of the reps about getting a different model (since they're out of the 6050 and 6060) and she cautioned against the onkyo's, as they are getting LOTS of calls about them.

the worst part is that they CANNOT and WILL NOT take an onkyo back, for ANY reason - you buy one, it's yours, even if the package gets driven over by a truck - you're stuck with it.

i just thought i'd add a warning in to anyone who was considering this deal - i think this is a great receiver, but you might want to call around to figure out what you're gonna do if you get a dead one.

i'm just a bit leery because of what's happened to me.

If it comes with any kind of warranty at all, even 30-day, you should be able to get it repaired by them or send it back. Otherwise, I'd talk to my credit card company.

I have the model about 4models above this one, dual zone 110watts per channel BLAH BLAH BLAH, and anyways these things sound AMAZING. THe sound is crystal clear and they are underrated watts wise.

why does Onkyo always have an abundance of refurbs? What do they always have to fix on their models? You hardly ever see companies like Yamaha, Sony ES, and Pioneer Elite, and Denon have so many refurbs. Is it that Onkyo QC sucks or are they components this bad about failing on customers?
