I got this one a few weeks ago (it was $125 then). Great receiver.

This one is audio only, correct?

Huh?

I didn't see anything on the ecost product page about video IO, so I had assumed this was an audio receiver, not an AV receiver. But, if I had been paying attention, I would have noticed "DVD" on the LCD display and the words "Home Theater Receiver" in the title.

I was looking at the Onkyo 700 refurb and just cant hit the buy button with so many bad evals for ecost, I have the 501 now and its a great HT reciever but if your running towers the 601 or 701, 700, would pack a little more punch.

I just bought the HTR510 for $149 vs the TX-SR501 for $179 (both at e-cost). Called Onkyo and the only difference between the two is that the HTR510 has MORE power. 100 watts vs. 65 in the SR501. Why they charge more for the less powerful amp is beyond me.

I tried the HT 510 it does have more power and the same features as the 501 but it sounds different it has more midrange to it for some reason, but it is the better deal.

I just got the HTR510 and it ROCKS! Plenty of power - very versatile. Takes Banana clips instead of those little springy pieces of crud. The remote is about the same size and density of a watch calculator though - the buttons are tiny and spaced closely. But it does control my DVD player, the TV, The Dish, and the VCR. Not too bad. And great price - comes from ONKYO fully re-packaged.

I did end up buying one of these, I love it. Gladiator in 6.1 sounds INCREDIBLE. The DTS: Neo also does a fantastic job of turning 5.1 ---> 6.1

Oh, yes, it has video S-Video inputs/outputs, that is the main reason I decided to get it.

i'd like to bug you with a few questions before i leap on this one if you don't mind, because unfortunately ecost doesn't have too much information on it. onkyo.com also doesn't seem to have info on it since it's part of a home theater system.

how many sets of inputs/outputs does it have? and it DOES include s-video, right?

does it have digital in/out with optical/coaxial?

lastly, what was the condition of the unit like? were all the original accessories included?

thanks for your help in advance!

3 S-Video inputs, 2 outputs

2 optical in, 1 digital coax in

It was in brand new condition, not a scuff anywhere. The box stated "minor cosmetic blemishes" but I couldn't find any.

For all technical info inclucing inputs/outputs etc you can find the manual here:

Oh- and just a warning to those getting the HTR-500, many of the units suffered from the same LFE problem that the TX-SR500 had, unless Onkyo fixed this. Subwoofer mode 3 would not work(which is the mode where the sub only outputs the LFE channel).

I was worried about that after I ordered. Initially I thought I had the same problem but after doing the correct tests I found out that the reciver was fine. I think they ironed out this issue in March or so.

The "only 12 units left" deal is a ploy. They refresh the counter every hour - or every time they take a new delivery. As long as Onkyo is selling the units, eCost will have refurbs to sell.

I got the HTR510 and it is solid. Do yourself a favor and buy some good quality banana plugs to use with it. Radio Shack is the place to go to get your S-Video/Optical digital lines. They are on some huge discount.

I wanted to go all component video - but my stupid TV has everything but component.

I can back this up, I've seen the HTR500 go in and out of stock constantly.

Well, the Kenwood 'factory reconditioned' unit came with a damaged IC and capacitor that would have cost about $130 to repair. Now I have to return the receiver to eCost, and pay the shipping cost out of my pocket.

If you're interested in a decent receiver, you might also look into the Denon AVR483 from 6ave.com. For $168.06 shipped, you get a new, warranted receiver, as 6ave is an authorized retailer. It's strange though, if you look at this pic of the AVR483 on Denon's site, you can see that it's clearly an AVR1403. They have the same specs as well.

I thought I got a good price on my Onkyo 777 at CC for $400 a couple years ago when they were selling for $900. These receivers for under $200 is simply amazing imo.

That 510 looks like a sweet unit for $150. I checked the users manual and it even has Component Video Switching, awesome.

I don't like this "no return ever on Onkyo" policy of eCost though. Wtf??
