The design for this player is somewhat different.

I own it for one year.

It does not have a "stop" button. You can pause a song, it will pick it where you pause; Or, you can turn it off, but it starts from the beginning of the song.

No "Power" button, you need to press "OK (play)" for 2 seconds to turn it on (off). It is annoying to some (to my old dad, at least.) Once you use it a few times, it should not be a problem.

"Next" and "Previous" buttons are not usual "Left" and "Right" placement, they are "Up" and "Down" arrows. I listen my muisc randomly, so I can't say about this.

The display, when a song is playing, it scrolls MP3 tag. It won't be easy to find the exact song you want. It looks like this

"T050 1:50" (Track number, time - it appears always)
"MP3 tag...." (MP3 Tag, begins to scroll when it plays)

Volume control buttons are on right side of player, "+" and "-" buttons.

FM reception is decent, you can NOT record it.

Voice recorder. I have not used it at all. I believe it record in WAVE format.

Very decent sound, 7 pre-set EQ and 1 Custom EQ.

It had been dropped many many time, not broken yet.

One AAA battery: I got 8 - 10 hours; I am not a loud listener (10 out of 30) is my usual volume.

Who's your new dad?

I've been buying from them for several years, large and small orders, and have always been satisfied with the products and service.

They also have a store in Santa Clara, Calif., and have, or used to have, frequent parking lot sales.

Since this player takes SD cards, if I had known about it I would have ordered it instead of yesteday ordering this (but that's ok; my mp3 needs are small.)

I just got mine, less than 5 days after ordering. Question 1: is formating my SD card via the Rush program the only way to get the Rush to recognize it; Question 2: if I format my SD card for Rush use (as instructed in the manual), will I be able to use the SD card again in my Panasonic digicam without some special format operation?

I never format SD cards with Rush's software; format it like you usually do, in a card reader. Have you hook it up yet? After you install the driver, it will show as "two" exteranl drive (one internal memory, the other SD card): drag-n-drop songs into them. You can also use card reader to drag-n-drop songs, no need to use Rush player; I believe Rush is USB 1, not very fast.

Can someone try the microphone feature and give a quick review? Can we upload the voice recordings via USB?

Re: microphone/recording: I am not an audiophile but I was quite pleased with recording quality. I only tested talking into it. I came across a wav file someone else produced apparently recording a lecture. It was very hard to understand because of lots of ambient noise. It sounds like the unit was placed on a hard surface and moved while recording.
You can upload recorded files to your pc via USB
Thanks to Brucekatz for showing me how to avoid the format option.

Received this yesterday. Small and compact, but the gripes are the volume has to be up to around 18-20 to be able to be listenable, Im sure I'd have to have it maxxed at 30 to drown out a loud gym environment. Tried with several earbuds, headphones no big difference. An armband would be nice, (where can you order one for this unit) as well as an AM tuner (yes some people still listen to AM talk radio). Also being able to record radio broadcasts would be expected. For $29.99 I can't complain but this doesn't do much more than my San Disk Mp3 Companion already does.

sounds like you really could use a pair of inexpensive canalphones like shure e2c. if you have to turn up the volume so loud everything, i am pretty certain you will sustain hearing loss over some time.

Retail version did come with an armband. Guess they took it out of the refurb.

Reconditioned armwrist. That would be pretty gross. =\

It's not like I need to listen to everything on "11" like Spinal Tap would say. Just that you really can't even hear ANYTHING till you turn the unit up to 10 and thats faint like a whisper. My San Disk Mp3 Micro Cruzer Companion was initially like this till I sent it back to San Disk the second version the volume was more acceptable. I don't know why this happens, as I thought it was the crappyt headphones at first but I have several pair even noise cancelling ones and this doesn't solve the fact that the firmware or whatever doesn't give an acceptable volume. I'd prefer a 1-10 volume like an amp if there was an audible difference through every number. 1-30 is a joke when you can only use the volume from 20-30.

The Headphones that come with it are the crappiest I've ever used. They are designed so they cant fit in your ear without hurting. I am a firm believer in having good ear phones and would just like to suggest the SONY MDR-E829V to fully get the potential of this Player. Just to give you an idea, with the stock headphons I had to keep the Volume at 27 or 28, with the Sony headphones I can keep it at like 21 or 22. The sony one's are only 14.99 and come with a volume control, if you dont have the need for that feature you can get the SONY MDR-E828LP for 9.99. I've owned three pairs of these(unfortunately mine have gotten stolen three times) and they are the best for the price. It makes this MP3 player 5 times better I believe. The MP3 player is solid though for 30 bucks shipped. The battery life is great, compact, well lit, and great sound. The controlls are hard to get used to because as someone pointed out earlier shifting songs is up and down instead of left and right. But over all a great buy.

I'm using sony headphones MDR-W08. Over-the-head but in-the-ear type. Also about $10 I believe. If you want headphones you can hear you need to know about a spec called sensitivity or efficiency usually on the back of the pkg. Its measured in dB or dB/mW. (decibels per milliwatt). Look for numbers over 100 db/mw. I see them range from 86 up to 108 or 110. There is a huge difference between 96 and 104. decibels are not mesured linearly. They increase logrythmicly. I'm sorry I may be wrong in some details, my electronics was along time ago. The concept is very simple. At a certain setting a specific song on a specific player puts out so many milliwatts. It doesn't change but if your new headphones are more sensitive or more efficient the speaker will move more than a less sensitive speaker. More air movement means more sound. Hope this helps somebody.

I guess, it more like a really used one rather than a refurbished one that I recevied. The screen only has scratches and not very visible. The body kind of has a small chip in it. Maybe I need to call them and ask them about it.

Does anyone know how to get this player to play songs in sequence say to match that of the original CD the MP3's were encoded from? Same problem as my San Disk MP3 Companion, for some reason the files don't play in sequence. I have tried every way of testing to see how this player and my other one reads it, *Alphabetically, *Numerically, *Combination of both, *ID3 Tags, yet it still doesn't follow the sequence. It will however play the same order every time albeit the wrong order. I usually have the filename set as >>> BAND NAME - TRACK# - SONG TITLE. I have also tried this by renaming all files 1-10 or A-J and yet it seems there are a few songs that are out of order every time. This is a mind boggling annoyance that is driving my OCD crazy@@@ I did read the RUSH acrobat manual on the CD Rom and it didnt say anything about getting the songs to play in order. It mentioned about adding a playlist, but I tried that using Winamp (I hate Music Match) and it didn't change anything. I would love to live in peace with the correct order of songs. HELP!!!!

Oh and yes I am aware the unit has a (repeat 1) or (repeat all) setting. (Wish they had NO REPEAT) That's not the cause of this problem. I did figure out that the MP3 COmpanion I have it does matter the order in which you ADD the tracks to the Micro Cruizer USB Flash Drive. Counter intuitively the last track you add is the first one that will be played. Ridiculous. Same theory doesnt work on the Philips Rush player though..... ughhh....

Where the hell did you find this old thread? If you click the OP link you'll see that this deal is no longer good, and this thread was long dead and burried. BTW if you want mine I'll sell it to you. I dont like the way the interface works.

Heh, I was just responding to the last guy post....

I take it, your mp3 player is not showing up as a "removable drive"??

The Mp3 does show up as a removeable drive. Actually it shows up as 2 removeable drives. One for external SD cards (if you have any) and one for the internal memory.

I think the deal is still going on at Surplus. I think I saw it @ the same price yesterday.
